Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

about people quitting treatment, that is not the case alot of the time. Some of us just can't do it. Using words like quitting treatment and stuff like that is offensive. Make sure you educate yourself about treatment, you can put new ppl into a tailspin and seriously get depressed, i know it happened to me when i came in here. That's why i had to leave and distance myself and pull myself back together. Had a good therapist also that went through treatment. Interferon is not for everyone. It just doesn't work for alot of us. Who knows why, but this virus is very smart and mutates. In some cases the interferon and ribavirin doesn't even work on these mutated strains. Whoever didn't get SVR from the old treatment, kieep your head, things are coming down the road for us. take care of yourself in the meantime. Please don't aleinate those who the treatment didn't work for. We are all heppers and need to battle this. Believe me we are the majority that this does not work for. My hope is for new treatments, the more the better.

You are right, we need a treatment that works for everyone. I will not bore you with my story, but I have a lot riding on clearing this virus. I am just going to stay positive and do my best. If I have to stop treatment because of side effects or because it is not working I have no regrets. I knew what I was getting into and I did my best. I cannot be angry. I have to keep a positive focus.

Will do thanks Nancy, i just wish we would organize like the Aids/HIV ppl did. its frustrating. Watch "as the band played on" scary part of that movie is they could have stopped aids/hiv they got down to person zero, but the french and our ppl got into a pissing match and it got out of control. They were arguing about who found the virus first, insane if you ask me.

The word "failed" is used quite a bit in the medical world. I agree, it can trigger negative emotions or worse in a patient. I think it probably was originally used instead of "poor response to ___" whatever med. There are a lot of things that are easily misunderstood such as SOB for "shortness of breath". One of my personal faves "patient denies any hx (history) of ETOH (alcohol) or recreational drug use. That word denies sure puts a spin on it. That just means that the patient answered "no" to something during the history (maybe health interview would be better). Picture this: "O.K. Sister Mary Catherine, Have you had marathon sex with Vin Diesel within the past five years?" "Ten years?" "In your lifetime?" Translates to "Pt denies any Hx of marathon sex with Vin Diesel". On and on I ramble - again. Sorry 'bout that. Lets all get good and mad at HCV and pool that energy toward fighting IT. Love, Nancy

The good news and bad news is that with the huge number of people with HCV it should motivate the drug companies to work on a cure.

I have a type of lymphoma that only have 400 diagnosis per year. There is little or no research for that.

Even with new tx's, only 75% of people will SVR. And at what cost? In terms of $$ and suffering?

We need a gentle tx, that is 100% effective. It's possible... we will see it soon.

Thanks KatAnda yeah i had to remember that cause my doctors made me feel inadequate and told me they never heard of anyone having problems with the treatment, so you can see why i was angry, they lied to me big time.They also endangered my life by not knowing what they were doing.
