Heart Attack Support Group
Heart attack is a serious, sudden heart condition usually characterized by varying degrees of chest pain or discomfort, weakness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and arrhythmias, sometimes causing loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart is interrupted, causing death and scarring of the local heart tissue.

I just learned that I have a highly elevated level of Lipoprotein(a)- mine is 222, when less than 75 is normal. I'm 47 y.o., & had a significant MI on Nov 20, 2009 with 100% blockage of my LAD, 2 episodes of cardiac arrest, cath, & 1 stent placed. I've always had low bp & fairly optimal cholesterol. My known risks were Dad's MI at age 32, high stress, and too much saturated fat consumption. I'm starting to read more about Lp(a), and it sounds like that helps explain the link between my Dad's heart attack & mine, since high Lp(a) is genetically transmitted. I'm about to switch to a highly recommended cardio. I also just got myself a good new PCP- he's the one who found the Lp(a). I'd already read about Lp(a), so I had some initial understanding of the issue. I'd heard that the only thing known to reduce Lp(a) is niacin, but that it's unlikely to be effective when not at prescription strength as niaspan. My doc called in a prescription for niaspan. I'm aware of its side effects of flushing & itching (sounds great!), but my doc said I can reduce that (well he actually said block that) by taking an aspirin (which I'm taking daily anyway by just moving it from AM to PM) 30 to 60 minutes before taking the Niaspan. I'm going to read a bit more before I start the Niaspan. I see the research on the link between Lp(a) & heart disease, & that niaspan can reduce Lp(a). I just don't know yet if there's research showing that reducing Lp(a) leads to reduced risk of MI. I'm both encouraged and worried about this new information & recommendation. I'd love to hear from other folks who have info and/or experience with Lp(a) & Niaspan. Thanks for any help you can provide. Sue

Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Yes I do rememeber Sue being concerned with the side effects of the Naispan. If I can remember correctly, it wasn't the flushing or creepy crawly skin side effect that concerned Sue, as it was the .00000000000000013 % chance of a horrible painful death from a cracked head upon first use that fed the death obbsession thing I think. Yepper. Bet Me.
Also the OTC niacin is wayyyy less efficable than "Big Pharma" Niaspan. Niaspan is not cheap either. Sue did you miss quote here. Did you say that your LDL's were above 200 ? Or is it your Triglycerides that are elevated? Total 115 and HDL 60 makes me think 200 LDL is a mis quote. Hmmmm.
start taking it it helps i have been taking it for over a year and i can count on one hand how many times i had the flesh tingle and the hot flashes.SO START TAKING IT !

Referral Question: Whether or not the patients of concern, "Joey the Boss" and "Big Johnny" can be rehabiliated.
Assessment: After intensive assessment through extensive clinical interview, projective testing (da inkblots!), and attempts at early intervention, it must be concluded that these two clients are currently beyond rehabilitation. The evidence upon which this assessment is based on current attempts to force "medications" upon innocent women, affilitation with "the family", and general obnoxiousness.
Recommendations:
1) Recommend a regimen of heavy medications (snow them!!!!).
2) Attempt to engage them in prosocial activities as a positive distraction from illicit activities, for example, convince them that they are heart attack "survivors" and enlist them to provide support and positive socialization among individuals with heart disease. Protect the individuals to whom they provide "support" by ensuring their anonymity through using an anonymous internet site.
3) Periodic supportive counseling employing a group treatment model (will frame this as "Heart Friends Gatherings", to increase cooperation and reduce resistance). Next intensive session and re-evalutation to take place in Memphis, June 2011. Possible emergency session to be scheduled prior to that date if deterioration of mental status (patients' or treater's) occurs.
The information in this report is confidential and not to be released without consent, other than posting it on an international web-based support group.

We never know what meds will be added so it is good for us that are not taking this meds to read what you and others are saying.
Did you start the new med?
I have been having some pain in my hands and arms - sometimes my legs lately - not sure if it is med related or the lyme and or yeast acting up some.
I will speak to my doc about this on the 14th when I go!
