So we finally ended up having the "exclusive" talk yesterday. He actually brought it up by asking something like, "so where are we?" which at first seemed like a good sign. He said he's not used to having such a strong connection with someone, both physically and mentally, that I'm everything he's been looking for. I told him I feel exactly the same way, which is why I haven't wanted to date anyone else since we met. Then the whole thing kind of shifted. I think he caught a whiff of commitment in my words and got alarmed. He talked for quite awhile about past relationships (he got out of 7 year relationship about a year ago and has only really been dating for 6 months), basically to make the point that no, he does not want to be exclusive. He wants to keep dating other people. He wants me to keep dating other people. Yet he only wants to sleep with me, and he really wants to "see where this goes."
I was left with several questions after the conversation ended. First of all, why date other people if you claim I'm everything you've been looking for? Especially if you will not be pursuing sex with them? Second, is it worth hanging in there for a guy who may well never commit? I feel like an idiot now for saying the things I did, but I feel like he set me up to do so.

Nationalday.com proclaims September 28th as Self Aware Day. I took a few snaps of various core values lists and tried to pick my top five core values (kinda hard to only pick 5). But here are my top picks. Feel free to list a few of yours too:GodLovePeaceStability Compassion

Now that I am not talking to my whatever best friend, I realized that her life is full of drama. I had grown tired of hearing her stories about her boyfriend many months ago. She basically had been monopolizing conversations for that long too. She pretty much stopped asking me questions about me. I passed her in front of her classroom the other day and didn't even look at her. I am...

I would be highly offended if I was having sex with a guy but he wanted to keep shopping.
Just my opinion though.
Anything else is betraying yourself and what you want, right? I mean you could hang in there and see where it goes. Or you could try to get comfortable with this kind of relationship. Or you can take control and call the shots.
Question: Has he dated anyone else since you've been together? Is he asking to spend Christmas or New Years with you?
What are YOUR values? How do YOU want your relationship to be?
Go back to the time before you met him and reflect on this:
Did you want to meet someone who would dilly dolly for 6 months and then tell you that you should still see other people. Is this the kind of relationship you would be OK with?
If what he offered you goes against your vision and your values, then you should not remain with him. This is why when I used to date, we used to get things out of the way rather quickly.
If I was not in a place to have a relationship and the other person felt the same, we both agreed that this is a self-limiting event - we actually set a date ( like 2-3 months ) there would be no relationshipy stuff going on , we were there for each other strictly as sex partners with don't ask-don't tell about who else we are dating policy and mandatory condoms.
I guess what I m saying is - protect your feelings and do not accept this arrangement out of fear of losing him. How Crappy would it feel if during his polydating he met someone he really fell in love with and then dumped you for her ?
I am against poly dating when there are feelings involved because when you have been together all this time, this is the time when you grow and nurture your relationship with focused attention on each other. Dating other people takes away from this process and it likely
Never will turn into something serious. If you don't wanted the flower it is not going to bloom.
So, good luck and I hope you have happiness.
be honest with yourself about how that makes you feel about yourself
I am glad you got it worked out!
@Aronia, damn that was some good advice!
Now it is time to discuss what are acceptable boundaries of " friendships" with the opposite sex?
- meeting with his female friends/your male friends alone without talking about it to each other ?
- daily texting ?
- staying overnight at their houses?
Etc
Anyway, glad for you that you got the clarification you needed. I hope things work out for you guys!
