Is it a risk to date a man who is divorced?
I've met him a couple of months ago with my family.
When we shook hands, time stood still and he looked deep into my eyes.
Then I noticed a ring, so my mind totally dismissed the possibility of a relationship (the mind does it so fast!)
Then weeks later I see him again, and he seems tense and nervous - he cannot turn and look at me when I enter the room and just carries on chatting with my family.
I then send him a short email about a choir he goes to, and within two hours he sends me a long email about it plus a voice message offering to drive me there. It all comes across as very enthusiastic and delighted that I sent him my initial short email about the choir.
So a couple of weeks later I go to the choir, and he seems shy around me and has a twinkle in his eye every time he looks at me. I'd say that I'm attractive but there are plenty of women who are better-looking than me. But I get the impression he's "taken" by how I look.
Does a married man instantly call a woman and leave a message saying "I'd absolutely love to see you at choir" and "I'm happy to drive you there", then write her a long email saying the same and a few other things? I'm confused. He has a ring on. He also has a 22 year old son, and I'm already worrying that maybe his son will see me as a threat, or the ex-wife (if that's what she is) will hate me.....
I hate it when my mind goes into over-drive, and makes up stories, thinks too far ahead.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...
However, if he is truly divorced, I don't think it's any more of a risk to date him as opposed to someone else who has never been married. There's a risk with dating anyone. Just ask him about the previous marriage and why he got divorced. Sometimes people just grow apart, doesn't make him or her a bad person.
Wishing you the best!
Sounds to me like a very much married guy, possibly looking to cheat on his (unsuspecting) wife.
I would stay away from this man.
I’m married to someone who was previously married. That in and of itself is not a risk. So many people are divorced so if you eliminate them as potential mates would be really limiting the dating pool.
I would ask him what his story is. Learn about him and listen to how he frames his marriage, wife, ex wife etc. Many years ago when I was young and single I met a man I really liked who said he “was going through a divorce.” I learned he was still living with his wife. I ended it as soon as I found out but I learned from that experience to ask more questions and really listen to what’s not being said. It’s not fair to anyone to start a relationship before completely ending the one you are in.
His son recently got married - I sent him an email back saying "that's great news. You and your wife must be so proud"..... and he did not reply at all to this part of my email. No mention of a wife at all. Even the people at choir never mentioned/implied he has a wife.
At the moment I don't really know anything about him. But I agree it's best to protect myself.
The ring won't come off
They keep it on to somehow feel safe/secure
They are sending out the message they are not wanting to date
The ring itself is simply nice to wear and look at
The divorce ended on positive terms
Nonetheless, there are lots of fish in the sea. I really need to protect my precious mind.
My problem is Me; I'm a sensitive soul and it doesn't happen often where I really like a guy, but when I do, my mind jumps ahead and over-thinks..... it basically gets to excited too quick.
Three years ago I got diagnosed with Autism, and until this diagnosis I've been a lost girl. It's only now that I'm getting to know myself.....finally! I'm learning about me.
As you can all imagine I've had several failed relationships because I was autistic and didn't know, kept feeling lost, got my heart broken, got manipulated, and even got physically abused.
I'm getting to know Me at last, thinking hard about what I will/will not tolerate, and learning to take charge and put my own needs first.
So this guy I've met, whether he's married or not, is a temporary distraction.
I think the universe could be testing me here.
I think that soon, my intuition and mind will give me an alarm bell and tell me, "YOU are more important to you that him", and then I'll forget about this. After all, I've been abused so a part of my mind now thinks, "This person could be a bully/predator".
I was so relieved, but angry and sad too, when I got my ASD diagnosis. I'm in my late 30's and most of my friends have moved on, got married and had kids. I've been completely stuck on my own (with parents who knew I was different from an early age but did nothing), and I now have the task of trying to repair the damage...... learning to forgive those who trampled on me, learning what a relationship actually is(!!!!!) and finally being myself. After all the problems I've had (and I haven't shared all of them), I doubt I'll go as far as children (because I've got too much to learn), but there's still time to meet my soulmate and share my life with him. I'm learning to be happy on my own at present and to love myself.

Don't get too ahead of yourself
Worrying about the son, ex wife etc....
I understand about feeling a connection
And that must be exciting for you. Take your time, maybe find out if he is divorced.
I have an Uncle that has never been married and wears a wedding ring.
I also have a friend that wears a ring,
When asked about it she stated
I and married to Jesus.
You mentioned learning to love yourself, I think its important to love yourself, before expecting someone to love you. The way you treat yourself will set the tone on how others will treat you.
Hope all goes well
