My guess is that we are at the CYA (Cover Your Ass) stages of pandemic politics. The price of all this wisdom has been high. Education and social services are typically the first to take the hits when it comes time to pay the proverbial piper. Children are expendable at the voting polls..

My GKs have done the year in COVID compliant school, so I'm not all that familiar with the yaddahs of those virtual blahs, but I just received and email this morning that remote learning has been declared a flop in our school district. Remote learning options will not be available for the upcoming school year. Apparently, the test scores of remote learners are pathetic and the district is not prepared for the technical challenges of Virtual Reality.

Congrats on having done so well with homeschooling. I am grateful it wasn't forced on me. I am already staggering without adding a multiple grade (2nd grade, Pre-K and Pre-school) teaching job to the load. Personally, if homeschooling had been the only option here, I would have switched to one of the homeschooling networks. Public school is designed for classrooms. Homeschooling is a whole different set of dynamics. Had it been forced on me, it makes more sense to go with the folks who have been at it a while.

I no longer hazard guesses as to what anybody in Masklandia is thinking. I mostly believe **they** have all been breathing their own CO2 for too long. Will the brain damage be permanent?

Remote learning this year was our choice, between the COVID and the major issues we have had with the school district not dealing appropriately with the bullying that had been happening. And it has been a STRUGGLE to get him to accomplish the work at times, and there have been a lot of assignments redone because he didin't pay attention to instructions and complete them properly, or the grade just wasn't up to par. But he has achieved A/B Honor roll level. He needed that confidence boost. He has gotten the best grades of his academic career so far, And next year he will return to the classroom, until we have issues with bullies or his grades fall, then I will bring him right back here to this dining room. His Reading grade is 104.75 and his Social Studies grade is 125%. Math is still his lowest subject @ somewhere around 90%. I wont see that go back to a 70. But that English teacher just really lit my fuse. She said it was what she was told to do by her director. It boggles the mind. I might understand it, if it was an elective that wasn't all that important in the scheme of things, but English? And the icing on the cake... his bio mom got out of rehab (1 month), day before yesterday. It took her 36 hours to finally send him a msg. First msg since his bday Feb 14. No explanation or anything, just "I love and miss you". He doesn't even want to hear from her at this point, but his counselor advises that it's up to him to tell her that.

ok, first of all, a big pat in the back to him for getting a good grade, while dealing with ADHD. Most people with such conditions may need some extra help with his lessons, just to give him the confidence that someone has got his back. I would suggest taking a look at https://eduhelphub.com/ they provide good quality tutoring and courses on a wide range of subjects including english literature. Might come in handy for you.

Thanks, he's a smart kid and it takes A LOT of patience to teach him. He did very well on remote learning, but we're going to try real school this year and see how it goes. I made the decision last month to go back to school myself @ 57, for my Bachelors of Science- Criminal Justice. We can go back to remote learning for him if he needs to.
