Good morning.

In 1931, major league baseball saw a record when St Louis and Chicago combined for most doubles in a game, with combined total of 23. That record, btw, still stands. For the non-sporting sorts, or non-US, a double is a hit that goes well enough for someone to get to 2nd base, hence "double". First base is a single, third a triple, and of course if you can get all the way around the bases, home run or "homer".
Today in 1960, manufacturing began on the now-iconic toy... THe Etch-a-Sketch! It's a drawing tool that means you can only make lines going vertically or horizontally, using two little knobs, and some people perfect their talents to this point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etch_A_Sketch#/media/File:Taj_Mahal_drawing_on_an_Etch-A-Sketch.jpg
I'll note you can get a diagonal line, but I never had the knack for turning both knobs exactly right to do it. Also, your lines are continguous. You can't stop, and start over at a new point. Whatever you draw? Yeah. Basically it's all one line.

OK, sorry, I have to bail, we're apparently going to lose power in a few minutes b/c of repairs needed. Shoot, nice of them to tell us.
BLessings!

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...
I used to love the etch a sketch when we were kids and I think I remember my siblings and I fighting over it lol. That drawing took some major talent and patience right there.
Miki, those nightmares are a real bummer. Do you see a therapist? Tried cognitive therapy, relaxation therapy, meditation, or anything else? I really feel for you.
Autumn, I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. Maybe go to bed early? I wish I had a king size bed to fit me, my husband and our cats. My husband already takes up 80% of the bed sheesh... he already squeezes me to the edge, add a cat in there and I'll fall off for sure.
Wonder, sorry about your chaotic day. I hope today is better. Your yard full of wild creatures sounds amazing! I would love to have that kind kind of nature hanging around for me enjoy and take pictures. What a blessing. I bet it washes your stressful day away like a wave of fresh water.
Twin, you sound like a single parent... sure wish that do-nothing husband would DO more!
Fantod, I hope your headache eases up on you and you feel better soon.
Chronic, yeah water parks and theme parks are just too rough. Hotel beds are very painful for me too. I learned the hard way with all the travel I like to do, I had to buy a dense foam (similar to memory foam) fold up cot that can also work as a mattress topper and bring it with me to the hotels. Otherwise, I'm a wreck. The airline takes it like a check-in and you just pay the extra fee if you have more than one luggage.
Susan, falling is no fun. I'm glad you're slowly healing.

Ida, hearing that your like your therapist warms my heart. I am so happy for that. I hope you don’t get too over heated setting up that garage sale. They sure are a lot of work.
Miki, I am sorry that you are having nightmares and that work is crazy busy. I hope you get through today and manage some rest tomorrow.
Autumn, oh pets. You gotta love them. Our lab gets sundowners and if he doesn’t get his meds (well sometimes if he does, even) he paces and pants until the sun comes up and then he sleeps like a baby. It is so frustrating, but I can’t imagine how he feels too. I hope your new bed comes soon.
Hi Wonder, I hope you are feeling better today. I am glad you got to see the hawk up close.
Twin, having kids that age is exhausting for a healthy person. I cannot imagine going back to that. I know I run around with my kids, but they are self-sufficient for the most part. Hang in there. You are doing a great job. Does Addison like to color? That is something she could do by herself. I don’t know. Take care.
Fantod, we could have chatted. I was up more than I was down last night, I think. Please stay safe for the storms.
Chronic, I am so sorry you are missing the beach. I am so sorry you are in so much pain and the beds aren’t comfortable.
Susan, sorry to hear you fell again. I am glad the Lyrica is doing its job and you have move energy.
Yay for sleep, Angela. I hope you start feeling better.
Blue it sounds like you have a nice day planned. I hope you enjoy it. Sorry the mosquitos are so bad. They are here too. I have found that some homemade bug spray of lavender, lemon grass and citronella fends them off pretty well. Have a safe trip home.
It has been humid here too and I have been miserable. The only way I can describe the pain is that it is the same type as when you get super cold and frozen to the bone. That is how my body from my jaw to the tips of my toes feels. Add a breeze and I am really a mess. I took 2 Tylenol PM’s last night and they did nothing. My legs and arms just hurt all night. So my daughter’s appointment with the endocrinologist went VERY well. She has some major hormone imbalances and will be testing for a lot of things. She said she would feel like a new person in 6 months. She is also giving the PCP a talking to for not referring her and telling her it was just because she needed to lose weight. Sonny’s appointment was, well not productive. That boy will be the death of me. She isn’t sure he has ADD but thinks it is more because he isn’t interested in school and/or bored. So, we will see.
I will be out of the office all day tomorrow working on a “Field Day”, so I probably won’t get to check in. Please know you all are always in my thoughts and prayers.
Still a little shaky from my fasting blood test this morning, I treated myself to a gluten free blueberry muffin and a double latte, so my blood sugar is probably going nuts! Not to mention the quart of blood they took...
Think I will go have a nap...
Susan
I am tired of PEM (post-exertional malaise) from my undiagnosed chronic fatigue syndrome. I spent five hours with a friend on Monday: 45 minutes walking, some eating and a relaxing movie (Dalai Lama) and SHE DROVE. Oh well, hope I can function at a higher level tomorrow or soon. I feel brain-dead: feel like I'm in a deep sleep while awake, but underwater.
Hope you all stay spider-free, cool enough and comfortable in all the problem spots.
Jon, hope you've recovered by now. Fasting scares me with all the dizziness.
Shakota, that's way too hot. Sounds like a long day for you too. I hope you have a slower day ahead.
