Good morning! Is anyone else in the US completely psyched that our women's gymanstics team has been *that* good? Oh, and our swimmers? Hello! Sadly, of course, soccer not being our forte, our women got knocked out by Sweden, and then had to be poor sportspeople about it. And naturally we have to shout out to Michael Phelps, who can't not win gold this Olympics. Holy wow!
BTW, this is a rare occasion when we lead the medal count and it's not predominantly silvers and bronzesk but a good bit of golds, too. Woot, USA!
Oh, and a fist-bump to our Aussie friends! Awesome medal count and performance in swimming!
Also, did anyone else notice Fiji got their first medal and it was *gold* to boot? How awesome is that? Less than a million people in Fiji, and they bea tthe world! At rugby! Shaming the Brits a bit (sorry, British friends, but I cringed on y'all's behalf when I saw that score. Oh, owie.).
So that's my rah-rah for today:-)

I think my brain melted. Don't get me wrong, you know I love to geek out, but the Mom thing? I have to be SuperNerd and also the "job boss", and of course be anxious about her health and well-being. If brain cells were eggs, mine would be soft-boiled... We can't find out why she has such hyperlipidedema, and they've checked everything twice. It's just *there*. I have a couple oddball theories of my own, but ....
So what did I do this time?
Mom's app't was for 4 PM.
It was 445, no sign of the doctor.
I walked up to the front desk and said, "My mom's app't was for 4, and we would've appreciated being told how late the doctor is running."
I received The Blank Stare of the Number-Crunching Minion.
I'm a bit frayed around the edges, so I added, "Is he in the building? It'd be good to know if he's even in the building."
Then I got the Death Glare of the Defensive Number-Crunching Minion. With, "He's in the building, and I'm sure he only has apatient or two ahead of your mother."
"One or two?" replied I, since I'm in *that* mode.
She got that "Drop Dead Rot IN Hell" look, and yet said, of course, "Bless your heart, let me check."
Let me clarify for all y'all who didn't transplant to the South.... "bless your heart" is genteel code for "I hate your bleeping guts you bleeping bleep rot in hell you bleeping bleepety bleeping bleep bleep and get the bleep outta my bleeping face!"...
Well, "bless her heart", she enver did answer the question, and it was 5 PM before Mom saw her doctor... Oh. Em. Gee.

In 1932, Adolf Hitler refused the post of vice-chancellor, holding out for "all or nothing". How many people wish he'd gotten nothing? ...
In 1942, Disney premiered the animated film "Bambi", based verrrrry loosely on the book fo the same name by Felix Salten. The 1923 Austrian novel is thought of as both a classic (it's awesome, btw) and one ofthe first "environmentalist" novels, as the book protrays the perils of wildlife when humanity enters the woods. Disney seriously fluffed this up, and that's *despite* still having Bambi lose his mother. Main effect of Bambi, of course, was for many men to feel horribly guilty when they came home from deer hunting and their kids wailed, "You killed Bambi!"... Yes, we did that to my dad. Didn't stop him, but geez, did we kick up a fuss. Then we hit him with "You killed *Thumper*!" and Dad stopped letting us watch Wonderful World of Disney. Weird but true.... Oh, Bambi was a name used in an American novel in 1914 (Marjorie Cooke's "Bambi", a shortened version of Bambina, Italian for little girl, and it's a nice romance about a girl who ends up witha guy who is just like her father, essentially).... But we mostly know Bambi b/c of Disney.
Random trivia: Roald Amundsen was sent out to find and rescue the people aboard the downed airship "Italia", which had crashed in Amundsen's stomping grounds.... The Arctic. Rather ironically, Amundsen's own plane took off and was never seen nor heard from again, despite searches as recently as 2007-9. Italia was returning from the North Pole when it went down, and it's believed Amundsen's plane crashed at sea, despite the fact nobody found bodies or wreckage to confirm the fact. Amundsen was a Norwegian whose fame stemmed principally from his reaching the South Pole first (and it was a race, since that was the Age of Polar Exploration), and also from managing the first *air* expedition to the *North* Pole. Gotta give the guy props. He was in his 50s, still doing the crazy polar expeditions. A lot of ANtarctica has his name on it, btw, and so does a crater on the moon (though he never got there that we know of, LOL)>.

Anyway, off to enjoy the weekend of melted-brain and brain-melting-heat. Stay comfy, stay calm, and above all else, big warm hugs:-) Puma's got your back:-)

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
I think I should stop responding in the morning or early afternoon so as not to snipe every post out from under you, Leo. ;) I'm a good 6 to 8 hours ahead of most people that often comment here.
Will your soft-boiled brains have a chance to recompose themselves over this weekend? Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy some blissful brainlessness.
A lot of Disney's stuff is based only loosely on the original material. That happy ending of the Hunchback of Notre Dame? That's supposed to end in Esmaralda's execution, Frollo getting pushed off the tower by Quasimodo for laughing at said execution, and Quasimodo dying of starvation in a graveyard because he refuses to part from Esmaralda's body. You know, for kids!!
Sleep was better last night and my partner and I have been having a nice, lazy day so far. Our relationship has made a huge, huge difference in my life, since we laugh together every day. And not just chuckles, but we roll around laughing together. So, yeah, I'd say we're pretty happy. :D
Have a great day, all~ *drifts off in a haze of saccharine, lovey-dovey thoughts*
Edit: I wrote this post over an hour ago, and it's just been sitting here, waiting for me to hit send. Thanks, fibro brain!
It's odd, I grew up with the original fairy tales, and they were Grimm (pun intended). Sometimes, there's no way to pretty up a fairy tale.
I do not like waiting for a doctor's appointment. Sorry you had to wait so long, Leo. I never liked the movie, Bambi. It was my mom's favorite. It was boring to me. Hope today is better for you.
Sonya. I didn't know that about the hunch back. I never read the real story. Have a good day.
We are on our way back to Orlando. Will be staying there tonight. Flying out tomorrow morning. It's been a nice trip. Great hotel last night.
I'm holding up pretty well, but am tired.
We might go shopping this afternoon.
Later....
Ida, safe travels!
Speaking of stress, I decided to stop going to pain doctors because they all treat me like an addict & a criminal right off the bat & they can't seem to get their...stuff... together. I've weaned myself off Oxycodone & my body isn't happy about it. I'm trying to manage with muscle relaxers & Naproxen. The AZ heat isn't helping, especially with the added humidity due to monsoon season.
LEO- I've never really been into watching the Olympics, but those gymnastics girls are amazing. Sorry about having to wait so long to see your mom's doc. So many doctors & their staff treat us patients as a nuisance. Ridiculous.
SONYACON- That's very interesting about the Hunchback of Notre Dame! I've never read the book before. I'm so glad you're in such a good place- sounds like you have a wonderful relationship. <3
IDAJOY- I'm glad you're having a nice vacation. Hopefully, your flight isn't too long. I hate sitting in those seats for more than an hour or two.
Hoping everybody has a nice, relaxing weekend. :-)
The good news is that we finally got rain! It rained all night and we may get more today. It's not enough but any rain is better than nothing.
Leo - I hate waiting in the doctors office. I've even asked to be put in an exam room so that I can lie on the table rather than sit in a chair designed by some sadist. I hope that you can rest up a bit this weekend.
Sonya - I'm having a lazy day here too. My partner is pretty tired after a busy week (Chef) at work. He is dozing on the couch. I'll probably compete my chores and crawl back in bed to watch a movie. Enjoy the rest of your day!
Hi Ida -I'm glad that you've enjoyed your trip. Enjoy the rest of your day! Safe travels!
AngelaJo - So glad to see you on check in. I think that you are finally getting some good medical care. Try to hang in and work through this transition. Hoping that you can find a way to distract yourself today maybe with a good movie. Hugs!
Hi Courtney - I am thrilled that your new job is working out so well.
Everyone who has to use opioids is subject to extra inconvenience and scrutiny these days. I hope that you can stay off of them. It isn't fair that chronic pain patients have to go through this bullspit to get needed medication.
Good to see you on check-in and doing so well. Enjoy your weekend.
Off to fold a mountain of whites from my partners work week and do some other *fun* stuff around here. Strike up the band! Shout out to BBMom, TwinMom, Blue and Bear!
Leo, I always hated Bambi, it's sad and boring. I was absolutely cracking up so hard from your bless your heart coded meaning. And this is why I love checking in with you guys. LOL. I'm sorry about your continual struggles dealing with your moms stuff. I get pretty heated once we reach the hour wait time mark. Enjoy some chocolate today or settle for some rest watching something you enjoy! :-)
Sonya, I'm glad your up and at em before you we get going. It's great to have you on here each day. I'm glad you are having a well deserved nice day. I hope it continues and you guys have fun today.
Courtney, I've been thinking about you. I was hoping no check-in meant the new job was going good. I'm so relieved for you!!! Finally something easier in your life to manage.
The girls got their cute haircuts for school this morning and we just finished chick-fil-a. Now I am headed to a vape convention for my husband. I have a lot of additional back pain today and didn't sleep great last night, but I'm not like him, I still put my effort forward to make everybody happy.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
Leo, I hate waiting for apps, too. I like how you asked if the doc was in the building. lol. I should try that one next time the VA is running hrs behind. I actually haven't been keeping tabs on the olympics, but I hear people talk about it when we win a gold medal. I hope you get some free time today to enjoy yourself and nothing further boils that "egg" of yours. I think mine's been soft boiled for months now. Wishing you a good rest of the day! Hugs
We cut open the giant jackfruit yesterday (with the only big enough knife we could find: a machete) and realized it wasn't quite ripe. Oops. It was cut into quarters and even the quarter pieces won't fit in the fridge. So, I saran wrapped each piece and stuck them in 4 paper bags. We'll give it a day or 2. If it looks like it's ripening, then "yay", if it's going bad, then I'll go look for another one and I'll be bummed.
Then we drove to the west side of the island (where it's usually hot), to a town called Lahaina, for the dinner cruise. My husband said his friend Steve, who works for the time-shares and cruises, told us to park at his condo which is close to the water. So, I assumed it was a short walk, because my legs and feet have been killing me for several days now. Tuned out the doc for our cruise was 1.5 blocks away. But you know how people describe it, "Oh yeah, it's right there, by the park." I thought I was going to die half way there and my husband got frustrated with me. When we made it to the check-in line at the dock, we saw handicapped parking stalls. DUH! I asked my husband why couldn't we park there. He said he didn't bring my placard because Steve told him to park at *his* place since it was "pretty much right there". (facepalm!).
The cruise it's self was pleasant with great entertainment and OK food. But they had us all seated on the top deck in the hot sun (it was low, but still HOT). I felt like I was sizzling and kept going down to the "head" (restroom) to splash water on my self. lol. Finally the sun set on the water and it was beautiful. After, my husband went and got the car for me while I waited. Some homeless crazy lady came and sat next to me rambling (I normally wouldn't mind) but she was smoking and blew smoke all over me and I was coughing. I had already been coughing through out the day. Hubby pulled up just as I stood up. Whew.
We got home at 9pm. I was tired, sore, sticky, and smelly too. Still had to feed the cats before jumping in the shower and asked my husband to help me, but he refused to get up from his laptop, "I'm not getting back up." Sigh!!
Nothing on the schedule today. FINALLY. I really want to relax, but I'm also craving a trip to the beach since it's been like a month since my last beach adventure. But I don't want to aggravate my tired and sore feet and legs. I have appts this coming week every day Mon - Thu. And some more than one appt a day.
Back in a little...
I woke up feeling exhausted, surprise surprise, then ate breakfast and did some reading and writing. My body never fully woke up so I ended up sleeping again pretty quickly. This weekend I am really trying to regulate my sleep schedule and get things done (preparing for doctor's appointments and preparing to get back to school part time), but it is really difficult! Especially the part about regulating my sleep schedule.
At least I have a really supportive sister who is trying to remind me about my goals.
Thanks for the facts, Leo.
I hope everyone has a pain-free weekend
Go, Ida! I'm glad you are holding up.
Angela, healing hugs. Prayers you get a break soon.
Courtney, I'm so glad your new job is working out. I, too, was wondering about you. It's sounds so much better for you!
Fantod, thanks for the shoutout :). Sorry your knee problems continue. Hope they settle down soon. good luck tackling that white mountain and other stuff you got going on.
Twin, I hope you ate an extra chick-fil-a piece for me! Every time I go to the maindland, that's the 1st place we stop in for a bite. Of course I only end up munching on fries and soup, though, and maybe just ONE bite of my husband's chicken sandwich. ;). I'm sorry your back is in pain today. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers....
WarriorG, I'm glad you have a supportive sister in your corner. So awesome!
Healing hugs to all and hoping tomorrow is a better day for everyone in the pain department . Hugs
Idajoy: I'm very happy to hear you're enjoying your trip and are holding up okay! Good luck on the flight back. Flying is a misery – at least for me. I hope you'll be able to get a bit comfortable in the terrible plane chairs.
Angelajo: Good luck with the switch in meds. Take it easy. :)
Courtney: That sounds like a big improvement in your work, wonderful! Fibro-friends in America seem to have a much harsher deal with doctors and the whole pain med situation. Or maybe it would be the same here, and I'm only in the clear because I take what is usually a month's supply and use it over 6 months or more. Good luck with your med changes, and I hope you'll be able to regulate in a way that doesn't add stress and anger of judgemental doctors.
Fantod: I'm sorry you're in such a flare. Clearly, even one-fingered you're still an adept typist. Hopefully the rain will break that humidity to ease things up for you. I love just holing up with Netflix or whatnot during bad pain times. Enjoy you weekend!
Twinmom: You're always so nice, and I'm always glad to see you in the check-in. I hope your husband's convention was manageable with your back and that you got to enjoy a nice, relaxing day afterwards. Have a great Sunday and be sure to rest up!
Bluesky: I admit I had to look up what a jackfruit was. I've heard about it before, but I've never seen one. The Netherlands has a very particular climate, with a lot of fruit being imported or grown in green houses. But certainly not every type of fruit, so there are some things that I just don't really know of. Does it taste good? I'm glad to hear the dinner cruise was still nice. Unfortunate about the things surrounding it. No one can tell a fibro patient it's “right there,” when walking if they don't ask what “right there” would mean that day for the one with fibro. I hope you can rest up today before your busy week. Oh, and, I tend to find the unconventional more interesting, too. As a child, I would always prefer the antagonists in a show, not because I disliked the good guys, but because the goody-two-shoes were just so predictable.
WarriorGirl: Welcome to the check-in! It's nice to see a fresh face. Er... read a fresh typing style? Sleep can be such messy business with fibro, it's extremely frustrating. I hope you'll succeed in your endeavours to regulate things a bit more this weekend. I'm not sure if I'm helped or hindered by the fact that I can't take naps. I'll indeed have that feeling of not waking up fully, and it makes me monstrously cranky, haha. Good luck and welcome again.
Yesterday my parents offered an impromptu trip to a small food truck festival on one of he nearest beaches. I only said yes because my partner had cabin fever and because I didn't want to put extra strain on my relationship with my parents by turning them down (we still have to live here for like three months, until we have enough of a financial cushion- ugh). It ended up being quite nice, actually. It got in the way of me exercising, but I was pushing myself in my wheelchair, so at least I did get some arm exercise in. My hips weren't up to walking much.
While unemployed, I'm still trying to get into a discipline of doing more. I need to get used to it since our finances depend on me getting and holding a job of at least 16 hours a week. So I've been doing 1 to 2 hours of exercise a day, and I'm properly getting back into my self-education of Japanese.
I know some basic grammar and taught myself two of the three different scripts. The third is where it gets really tricky, since that's based on Chinese character and is the bulk of their written language. There's so many of these symbols that Japanese kids spend their entire elementary and high school education learning new characters. At the end of that schooling, their grasp should be sufficient to read a newspaper. If they want to learn ALL the kanji in the Japanese language, they would have to do a university study. Just to learn all the written words in their mother tongue! Boggles my mind and it makes Japanese so hard to master. But I love it, and I find it more thrilling than hard to submerge myself that language. It just falls by the wayside the moment I have other obligations, because I don't have the energy and mental faculties to devote to it.
Sorry for the random rant. I'm only half awake and mostly trying to keep busy until some other person in this house wakes up. Have a great day, all!
Blue, I read the original Grimms as a little kid, and was shocked Disney "ruined" the stories, LOL. We'll be weird together?
Sonya, yep, it was more like "monster tales" than "fairy tales". Yikes... Wow, you're learning Japanese? I can barely manage the languages I already know....
Ida, don't melt down in Florida, okay? Not that the North is cooler right now. Back home reported 90-plus*F temps. Basically, Apocalypse.
Everyone else, I'm dealing wtih the scrolling thing here, but know I'm shouting out (gently) to everyone:-)
I slept 10 hours. Eighty percent of me woke up great. The other 20 woke up in the "slept in one position knot". Today we clean Mom's apartment since she can't get $$$ for that kind of help. Otherwise, we're hiding from the heat wave.
Annnnd.... the cats are in teh bird bath cooling off already. Cats getting wet on purpose. You know it's too warm when....
Warriorgirl, I'm glad you joined the check-in. I know that feeling of waking up exhausted and already done for the day. I was ready to cry when my alarm went off this morning. Thank God for supportive sisters. My sister doesn't do much for me, but I know how much she cares and prays for me. she does send me text each week to see how I'm doing, and that's more than what most people do, and I really appreciate it!
Sonya, unfortunately no rest today. I'm about to go to church with my girls and then I have grocery shopping to do, and lots of laundry. One of the daycare kids came up with Lice, so I will be treating my girls and combing through their hair today to make sure we aren't carrying. I'm glad you enjoyed the food truck festival. I love that you got an arm workout in from the wheelchair, that's how I think! :-) Go you for learning Japanese! That's awesome!
I'm leaving for church, then groceries, and comb my girls hair for lice or eggs. It's the worst thing, we've done this before from kids in daycare. Wish me luck! I'm in so much pain, and the chemo hit me hard last night. I'm so tired and feel sick and weak. And where is my husband...in bed. Prayers needed!
Hugs to all!
