Good morning! Is anyone else in the US completely psyched that our women's gymanstics team has been *that* good? Oh, and our swimmers? Hello! Sadly, of course, soccer not being our forte, our women got knocked out by Sweden, and then had to be poor sportspeople about it. And naturally we have to shout out to Michael Phelps, who can't not win gold this Olympics. Holy wow!
BTW, this is a rare occasion when we lead the medal count and it's not predominantly silvers and bronzesk but a good bit of golds, too. Woot, USA!
Oh, and a fist-bump to our Aussie friends! Awesome medal count and performance in swimming!
Also, did anyone else notice Fiji got their first medal and it was *gold* to boot? How awesome is that? Less than a million people in Fiji, and they bea tthe world! At rugby! Shaming the Brits a bit (sorry, British friends, but I cringed on y'all's behalf when I saw that score. Oh, owie.).

I think my brain melted. Don't get me wrong, you know I love to geek out, but the Mom thing? I have to be SuperNerd and also the "job boss", and of course be anxious about her health and well-being. If brain cells were eggs, mine would be soft-boiled... We can't find out why she has such hyperlipidedema, and they've checked everything twice. It's just *there*. I have a couple oddball theories of my own, but ....
So what did I do this time?
Mom's app't was for 4 PM.
It was 445, no sign of the doctor.
I walked up to the front desk and said, "My mom's app't was for 4, and we would've appreciated being told how late the doctor is running."
I received The Blank Stare of the Number-Crunching Minion.
I'm a bit frayed around the edges, so I added, "Is he in the building? It'd be good to know if he's even in the building."
Then I got the Death Glare of the Defensive Number-Crunching Minion. With, "He's in the building, and I'm sure he only has apatient or two ahead of your mother."
"One or two?" replied I, since I'm in *that* mode.
She got that "Drop Dead Rot IN Hell" look, and yet said, of course, "Bless your heart, let me check."
Let me clarify for all y'all who didn't transplant to the South.... "bless your heart" is genteel code for "I hate your bleeping guts you bleeping bleep rot in hell you bleeping bleepety bleeping bleep bleep and get the bleep outta my bleeping face!"...
Well, "bless her heart", she enver did answer the question, and it was 5 PM before Mom saw her doctor... Oh. Em. Gee.

In 1942, Disney premiered the animated film "Bambi", based verrrrry loosely on the book fo the same name by Felix Salten. The 1923 Austrian novel is thought of as both a classic (it's awesome, btw) and one ofthe first "environmentalist" novels, as the book protrays the perils of wildlife when humanity enters the woods. Disney seriously fluffed this up, and that's *despite* still having Bambi lose his mother. Main effect of Bambi, of course, was for many men to feel horribly guilty when they came home from deer hunting and their kids wailed, "You killed Bambi!"... Yes, we did that to my dad. Didn't stop him, but geez, did we kick up a fuss. Then we hit him with "You killed *Thumper*!" and Dad stopped letting us watch Wonderful World of Disney. Weird but true.... Oh, Bambi was a name used in an American novel in 1914 (Marjorie Cooke's "Bambi", a shortened version of Bambina, Italian for little girl, and it's a nice romance about a girl who ends up witha guy who is just like her father, essentially).... But we mostly know Bambi b/c of Disney.
Random trivia: Roald Amundsen was sent out to find and rescue the people aboard the downed airship "Italia", which had crashed in Amundsen's stomping grounds.... The Arctic. Rather ironically, Amundsen's own plane took off and was never seen nor heard from again, despite searches as recently as 2007-9. Italia was returning from the North Pole when it went down, and it's believed Amundsen's plane crashed at sea, despite the fact nobody found bodies or wreckage to confirm the fact. Amundsen was a Norwegian whose fame stemmed principally from his reaching the South Pole first (and it was a race, since that was the Age of Polar Exploration), and also from managing the first *air* expedition to the *North* Pole. Gotta give the guy props. He was in his 50s, still doing the crazy polar expeditions. A lot of ANtarctica has his name on it, btw, and so does a crater on the moon (though he never got there that we know of, LOL)>.

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. Twin, lice! Oh yay... not! I remember having to deal with an outbreak when I was a kid around 4th grade. My mom treating me and then a few months later repeating the treatment. Luckily nothing after that. Good luck! I keep hoping a day would come for you to get some down time. Just curious, are the girls grandparents in the picture? Do you have any siblings? I'm just curious what kind of support system you have (obviously not you know who).

My aunt sent me a recipe for jackfruit curry that uses "young" jackfruit as the main ingredient. So maybe it won't waste after all. Obviously, not ALL will go into the curry, because there's so much. But if I can use some, I'll be happy. So far, it doesn't look like it's going bad, though.
More awful PTSD homework I'm trying to work through.
My legs are starting to feel better and no more hamburger feet.

Blue, I hope you enjoyed church and have a blessed Sunday. I'm glad your legs are starting to feel better. I'm glad you got a recipe from your aunt that will work with your fruit. I have my mother and that's really it. My sister and brother never offer to help me with my girls. My sister for the first time in 6 yrs had them over for movie night about 2 wks ago. They have never stayed the night anywhere. My mom is a big help when I'm at work, but she has them 5 days a week. She does give them dinner 3 nights a week to help me and baths on those nights. The weekends are my time with them b/c I work all week and evenings are so busy getting things done and ready. I know I have more help than some, but could definitely use more help. Thanks for asking and caring so much!
We had a lot of rain here on Friday night and some yesterday. This week has a pretty good chance of rain every day. Not going to complain as we need it. I will work on the spring cleaning stuff that I never got done when my bladder imploded.
It looks like every one is holding their own this weekend. Bravo to all of you for getting stuff done and maintaining a good attitude. Worried about BBMom and hoping that she is OK. Enjoy your evening!

Didn't make it to church. Back spasms driving me crazy today. I looked over the jackfruit a little more... 2 of the quarter pieces are actually ripening and starting to smell sweet. I can't believe the saran wrap and paper bags worked! 1 quarter piece looks like we should cut it up today and cook something because it's not looking so good. And the other one isn't bad but isn't ripening either, so we'll try and make a curry out of it tomorrow then freeze it for a later meal. I've been looking up recipes. One of them is vegan crab rangoons. Instead of crab (my husband is allergic to various shellfish) you substitute it with young jackfruit. I'm excited to try and make it!
