I have a TENS unit. It is fine for treating a troublesome area but doesn't work for widespread relief.

Almost 2 years ago, I heard about a pain relieving device called Quell. It was featured at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronic Show. It works like a TENS unit except that it sends an electrical pulse through your central nervous system to stimulate your brain to produce natural pain killers. It is FDA approved and works for about 80% of the people who have chronic pain. It does not work for migraines. It reduces pain throughout your whole body. It is not covered by insurance and costs $250 plus the cost of electrodes which are a monthly expense. You can find it online. It was developed by some MIT nerds.

Haven't had the chance to try one yet because there is no coverage for it in my insurance. If ever I can afford to try, it would be interesting to find out if it helps me any.

Sonya - You can find some pretty inexpensive TENS units on Amazon. Maybe after your new home expenses ease up a bit...

Fantod thanks so much for that info! The tens unit does seem to help for temporary relief...that with a sleeping people aided me in getting sleep last night so that was awesome

I use my tens unit often to help calm the pain messages in my neck, shoulders and hands. I find that it works to a small degree but is useless when my pain is high.

I have had a tens unit for years for my lower spine issues. It does help my lower spine some, but when I have tried in other fibro related pain areas no help.

I have being using tens for my lower back which is the area that my fibromyalgia flares starts. Tens work pretty good for me, I use a heating pad on top of the tens and it works wonders.

I also use a tens unit for my daily use. I have runners knee and I usually put 4 pads around my knees. I used a tens unit for 6 years, to extend my work life, as I had a physical job. It did help, but I couldn't get the pads on and off without my husbands help. FibroHyg

Autumn I agree... Very useless when pain is high. It does not work for me, Having epidural injection this morning to try and get some relief from neck pain.
