Fibromyalgia Support Group
You're not alone in your pain. Fibromyalgia is a condition that can be difficult to diagnose and manage. If you're trying to cope with pain throughout your body, sleep problems, general fatigue, or other common fibromyalgia symptoms, you're in the right place. The community is here for you to talk about therapies and share your challenges.
Listen to your body. If you aren't getting relief, let your doc know. Therapy will hurt but it will get easier. No more than 3x's a week though. That is what my grandma did and it was the perfect amount. Do your exercises at home as well and it will help you recover faster. Don't push yourself too hard though.
Above all, listen to other's who have had it done. They know their stuff! I'll be here for support if you need me.
Warm Hugs,
Nancy
So you now have your knee and the surgery recovery, but it's also hurting your arms. I feel terrible for you. I am so sorry that you have to deal with this on top of the fibro. Life is not fair.
Soft Hugs! Bettie
Glad you came thru well and your daughter is helping you. My hubby had a TKR too (last year), and the pain was ferocious--but he is better than new now. He thinks the key is to force yourself to do the therapy exercises even though its painful. Demand enough pain meds to get thru the therapy and gradually you will need less and less meds. The only drawback for my hubby was that the TKR changed his height in one leg and made his back hurt until he got accustomed to his new posture. You are a brave soul to tackle TKR with fibro!
Best wishes.
Yeah the nerve block is helpful but when it wears off. Boy!
I think you are doing great considering.
And you are so right about the arms. I have shoulder pain due to bursitis and tendonitis and walking with the walker flared up the pain in them. And then the muscles too because of the fibro.
I tried to prepare prior to the surgery the best I could and did some strengthening exercises but really we don't have a clue until post surgery how much effects your body.
I didn't see your post until now. And I would have said yes surgery flared up the fibro especially in my legs as I had a tourniquet on my legs for the bi lateral knee replacements surgery and the pain in my quads was relentless for weeks. I had to keep massaging them. It's a brutal surgery.
you get all my empathy and understanding.
That's so great you have your daughter helping you. It makes a difference and it is needed.
As for PT for me. ha! The first few days in the hospital they were pushing me every day. I cussed one PT out and refused to see her again. And then the home PT visits. Geesh she was mean as hell and I told her so too. Lol. I am not normally so vocal and I'm a really nice person but I was in so much pain and on medication and I think I didn't care what I said.
I don't know if they were right or wrong with what they put me through.
They didn't really care about the fibro. It's like all they were concerned was getting the knees moving everyday and not to let scar tissue built up. So I did push myself and was in a lot of pain even with the medications I was on. And I was on some heavy duty ones. I just felt so much. And PT had me in tears at times however with all that being said almost 3 years on I have excellent range of motion compared to how I was. I am able to ride a bicycle if I want to. :)
I hope for you continued healing and everything is a success. Keep up the good work. And ice is your friend. On and off like advised. And though it hurts bend and flex knee periodically throughout the day just so scar tissue doesn't build up.
Also after staples come out. You can use cocoa butter and Work on gently massaging the surgery site. My nicer PT's showed me what to do. This breaks up the scar tissue. You can rub along and across the scar area. It is sore I know but it is important. My knee scars are hardly noticeable now and my knees are not a bad shape either considering. The skin is still slightly sensitive though.
Healing hugs to ya.
Good Luck To All that are still waiting. First time approval does happen.
Thanks for all your prayers.
Sandra
