Something else I get to worry about

I went in to have an ultrasound of my thyroid today, and a mammogram, my breasts are fine. But my thyroid is not, now I have to worry about having thyroid cancer? Are you kidding me? Geesh, first MS, then Fibro and now this. I have to get a fine needle biopsy of my thyroid and I'm scared to death. Sorry to unload on everyone, but why does everything happen all at once? I'm overwhelmed. (((hugs)))

Maybe it's not fibro. Maybe it's something with the thyroid that can be fixed!

Thanks guys, well I had a goiter on my thyroid years ago and had radioactive iodine treatment and I've been on thyroid medication ever since. I also just got my levels checked last week and they were normal. I will hope for the best. (((hugs)))

Thank you! I think I'm more afraid of the needle biopsy, than the cancer lol...I'm such a wimp. ugh!

I am so sorry that you are going through this hard time. I have had a Thyroid biopsy It is not to bad I found that trying not to swallow but other then that I didn't think it was to bad. It has been a few years since having the biopsy.

If you have a thyroid issue, however, that might be fixable and thyroid can cause a lot of FM-like stuff---so as Emily said, it may be a hopeful outcome in the end.

I've had several FNA's (fine needle aspirations) aka biopsies and it's not so bad... The 1st one, my doctor didn't give me a choice and I cried.. I have a cold nodule/goiter which I've been taking levothyroxine for many years. My TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) stays o.k. every year... Hugs, Nancee

Nancee, I had a goiter in 1998 and got radioactive iodine treatment done which made my thyroid underactive and I have been on levothyroxine ever since, my TSH was just done and it was normal. I read that you have a greater risk for thyroid cancer if you have had radioactive iodine in the past, this worries me a lot, but I also read that if you get cancer that this is the one you want, seems to be easy to treat because it rarely spreads outside the thyroid. I just have to suck it up and get it done, not be such a wimp about it. Thank you to everyone for your well wishes, I will keep you updated. (((hugs)))

Try not to worry. I'm hoping that everything will turn out to be just fine. I'm a big whimp too. Usually I find out that what I thought turned out to be worse than the actual experience. I appreciate your positive outlook here. You are going to get through this with flying colours. If you are going through hell, keep going. Hugs and attitude (lol).....
