Morning everyone. It's the weekend. And I'm up early for work again, but not as early as I will be tomorrow for the race. After work today I need to go to Newburyport to pick up my race packet/bib because they don't have packet pickup the morning of. Then home to walk Miki. I took her for a walk at the trails yesterday afternoon and she met a guy walking with a couple disabled teenagers. They absolutely loved her, it was adorable. And she loved the attention. I'm really unmotivated again today, my eczema is starting up (always does this time of year through the fall it seems and it comes on quickly), and I just want to sleep. Too much anxiety about everything right now. Speaking of sleep, here are some facts about it:
Humans are the only mammals that willingly delay going to sleep. Self imposed sleep deprivation is the most common cause of excessive sleep deprivation among Americans (I'd bet this applies elsewhere too)
At higher altitudes, sleep disruption is greater because of the decreased oxygen levels
The body never adjusts to shift work, shift workers are more prone to chronic illness, cardiovascular disease and GI disease
Infants sleep 14-17 per day on an irregular schedule, spending 1 to 3 hours awake at a time. The amount of sleep you need decreases as you age.
Scientists don't know (and may never know) if animals dream during REM sleep.
Tiredness peaks twice a day, at 2 am and 2 pm
People actually evolved to sleep in segments divided by an hour or two of alertness, which was spent doing things like reading, eating, praying or being intimate. This changed when factories started increasing work hours back in the day to increase productivity. They effectively convinced people they only need 8 continuous hours of sleep per night so they could work 14 hour shifts.
75% of people dream in color. Before the advent of color television, it was only 15%.
Being awake for 16 hours straight decreases your reflexes/performance as much as a BAC of 0.05%-almost the legal limit for driving drunk.
And on that note I need to get moving. I wish I was as motivated as Alli was when she helped put groceries away yesterday

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

... observed a solar eclipse.

I have zero plans for today and its a blah day weather wise. I slept in till 630 after having a rough night. Didnt do much yesterday other than grocerys and dishes. Well no plans to go anywhere, mom is coming over for lunch with one of the dogs to play with abby so thats good shell have a play date :) I havent had the blood work yet but i have gout in my ankle again. UGH I know that pain and i know thats what it is.
Angela, sorry you have gout again. You poor thing always dealing with those. I hope you're able to see a doctor on Monday to get it taken care of. Enjoy lunch with your mom.
We are about to leave to drop Brody off to get his haircut. He really needs it. I tried a colon cleanse supplement last night that use to help me before kids, and nope it's only giving me heartburn. I swear everything tries to come back up instead.
My right chest still hurts a lot but only when I lay flat on my back. I don't know what it is but I know it's not normal. Otherwise it's just a little sore at times like when I open doors.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Its foggy. Sloggy and I am groggy today.
Not up to anything really.
Shoulder hurting, might have to get a cortisone shot..one of these days..I dunno.
Perhaps the sun will shine tomorrow!
Angela I had gout several years ago and man is that rough. I hope you can get in quickly to get the med to fight it. You seem to get it a lot. Enjoy time with your mom.
Leo hugs for healing. I hope you find ways to get some relief.
Twins I think I may have herniated something around my ribs from the cough. Every time I stretch to wipe I get a huge bulge in my chest and it hurts like hockey sticks. I hope yours heals soon. I hope you have a good weekend.
MrsOtto I hope your shoulder lets up soon. It sounds like a good day to stay in, stay warm and rest.
I started the day off with coughing and still am. We are supposed to get 3 inches of rain and wind and all that does is kick up the mold spores. I hate being allergic to nature. I have some dusting to do today but we have left over pizza for dinner so no cooking. I hope everyone has a good weekend.
Miki, thanks for the sleep info. According to your research I should be functioning as good as a drunk every day. I love the picture of Allii in the shopping bag, how cute. I hope work isn't too bad for you and the race goes well tomorrow.
I did not get any homework done yesterday.... as soon as the 1st contractor bid came in, documents piling a mile high started pouring in via email for us to read and sign. And our printer wouldn't print so we had to drive into town to hubby's office to do it. Plus, we also had an over the phone meeting with our financial advisor that went on for like 2 hours. The good news is, the sun was out and we stopped at the beach along the way for a quick dip (I really needed that).
My stomach did really well all week on a chicken and white rice diet. My stomach was flat all week, no gerd, nausea, bloating, or IBS-C. I've "leaned" towards vegetarianism my whole life and all of a sudden I'm forced into being a carnivore. I tried tofu last night, with shitake mushrooms, glass noodles, carrots, and my stomach got really upset, so I guess I'm sticking to the meat and rice diet -ugh. Well. at least I found something that helps me feel better.
Today and tomorrow I need to cram homework, just like every weekend, and make up for the week days that I missed work. I have a test and I need to pick a book of the Bible to write a paper on. Yay.... not.
Back in a bit. (I hope DS will let me!)
Blue it sounds like you are on your way to a new house. I know it is a lot to carry now but soon you will be in it and will be able to concentrate on lessons. I can't imagine how you are keeping up with it all right now. Hugs of support.
Angela, I hope you can figure out something natural to take for the gout :(
Twins, that stinks about the colon cleanse not working. But yeah, I often have the same problem, what worked before won't work again (I try to tell the docs, but they don't listen). It's so frustrating, isn't it?! I hope there's something you can tweak with your diet to help you go more that maybe you just haven't discovered yet? That chest pain doesn't sound good... but it reminds me of my heart burn. I hope that's all it is and nothing too worrisome, just annoying. Prayers for some relief!
Mrs. Otto, I hope you caught a nap! Brain fog is no fun.
Sending hugs to Blue (don’t you just love it how technology always breaks at just the wrong moment?), Leo, Fantod,Twin, Miki, Wonder and the rest of the gang.
Miki good luck today!
I am at the point with this gout i would rather be sick from the pills than in this much pain so calling Dr tomorrow morning about it :( It was so bad all night i barely slept, got up at 6 which is even sleeping in for me took abby out potty and went back to bed till 9.. That is so unlike me. I was drained from not sleeping. It makes me dizzy at times even and thinking of pulling out my cane which i havent used in a long time. Rained yesterday, all night and again now so you know what my bodys saying to me owwwwwwwwwww :(
Autumn, maybe I have something similar to your hernia. Has a doctor looked at it? You might just in case. I would not want to see anything bulging out of me, but I'm not sure what they can do for a Hernia. I can't see anything because it's under my right boob. It definitely feels like something is sitting on my chest when I lay down. It's a very odd feeling but the pain takes over and I just want to roll and get up. I'm sorry your coughing and allergies are bothering you so much. I'm having a hard time with allergies too. My nose is running bad and I keep sneezing. I hate benadryl so I bought some natural Boiron histamine tablets, they help a little but then I noticed it was drying out my mouth a lot and not necessarily this post nasal drip. Lol.
Blue, I"m glad you found something that works, I just hate sitting so bland. I can handle kiwi's and blueberries but only in very small quantity. It's so frustrating and old. I don't think it's heartburn I'm feeling. In fact, I would say 'I'm 90% sure that's not the pain I'm getting. Is it silly to just hope it will go away after I heal from surgery? :-) I'm sorry you are craming homework again this weekend. That is so stressful I'm sure. I pray you get some relief from all of the stress and extra work.
Maynard, I'm so sorry you are worried about work on Monday and that you are struggling this weekend. I know all of those med you took last week would constipate me so much I would end up in the ER from a blockage. I hope you find some relief and your able to take something that helps you.
Leo, I hope your finding some relief from the pain I've been wondering how you're doing snce the PT.
Shoutout to Fantod, milily, ZK, ida, Bear, and everyone else I'm missing.
I"m struggling bad and as usual my hubby adds to my sadness and stress. I'm worried about my recovery from the surgery since he was/is supposed to take care of me. I don't have anyone else but my sister and niece, and I don't think they will want to take care of me. I'm so stressed out and just keep crying.
