Morning everyone. It's the weekend. And I'm up early for work again, but not as early as I will be tomorrow for the race. After work today I need to go to Newburyport to pick up my race packet/bib because they don't have packet pickup the morning of. Then home to walk Miki. I took her for a walk at the trails yesterday afternoon and she met a guy walking with a couple disabled teenagers. They absolutely loved her, it was adorable. And she loved the attention. I'm really unmotivated again today, my eczema is starting up (always does this time of year through the fall it seems and it comes on quickly), and I just want to sleep. Too much anxiety about everything right now. Speaking of sleep, here are some facts about it:
Humans are the only mammals that willingly delay going to sleep. Self imposed sleep deprivation is the most common cause of excessive sleep deprivation among Americans (I'd bet this applies elsewhere too)
At higher altitudes, sleep disruption is greater because of the decreased oxygen levels
The body never adjusts to shift work, shift workers are more prone to chronic illness, cardiovascular disease and GI disease
Infants sleep 14-17 per day on an irregular schedule, spending 1 to 3 hours awake at a time. The amount of sleep you need decreases as you age.
Scientists don't know (and may never know) if animals dream during REM sleep.
Tiredness peaks twice a day, at 2 am and 2 pm
People actually evolved to sleep in segments divided by an hour or two of alertness, which was spent doing things like reading, eating, praying or being intimate. This changed when factories started increasing work hours back in the day to increase productivity. They effectively convinced people they only need 8 continuous hours of sleep per night so they could work 14 hour shifts.
75% of people dream in color. Before the advent of color television, it was only 15%.
Being awake for 16 hours straight decreases your reflexes/performance as much as a BAC of 0.05%-almost the legal limit for driving drunk.
And on that note I need to get moving. I wish I was as motivated as Alli was when she helped put groceries away yesterday

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

Twins, I would ask them anyway, you never know what someone will say till you ask. Your husband worries me... if I lived closer, I'd try and help keep an eye on you. Or at least smack him when he's not taking care of you. Maybe your chest pain has something to do with the implants? I hope once they're out, you start feeling better.
I'm in a bad mood.
Friday when hubby and I went to the beach, he accidentally kicked me in the knee when we were in the water. My knee's been killing me since so last night I asked hubby why hasn't he apologized and he gave me some BS lecture about my pain not being his fault and how it always happens and it's something I just have to work through when it does happen. Are you kidding me?! I know it was an accident, but it's common curtesy to apologize to the person you inflicted pain on. His response to that was to climb in bed and go to sleep. He always does one of 2 things during an argument: either leave or go to sleep. This morning I woke up at 5 and he was gone. Left a note about where he went, but still.
I also got into a confrontation with a farm worker. She's been walking past our windows literally every 5 mins day and night (at night with a bright flash light that flickers into our bed room when we're trying to sleep). So I said something to her and asked that she please not walk through here, walk AROUND this area, as in find another route. She responded with some snooty attitude, and 5 mins later came marching right back through, nose in the air at me. Then plopped down on the ground 10 feet away from where I was sitting (I was studying out side) took her phone out and held a loud conversation with someone in french. There's lots of jungle around here no shortage of space, there's no need for her to be hanging around our cottage like that, disturbing my peace. So I threw my book down and tracked down the landlord and told him to please have the workers walk AROUND our area. He gave me rope to rope off the path in front of our cottage, but then later came by and took it down (he's so weird). I hate this place and I can't wait to get out of here.
Sorry for the long post....! To those who took the time to read it, thanks! I'll try and go to church today, but I'm in a rotten mood.
I went to bed early two nights in a row too. I feel slightly perky today so I plan to get my grabber out and pick up sticks in the back yard. It is going to be almost 70 here today. There is a slight chance of rain later. I hope not because Chef wants to BBQ a couple of steaks on the grill. Fingers crossed.
I can't respond to everyone. I need to get myself dressed and outside. Twin, I am sorry that Hubby is giving you grief. Have faith that this will work out somehow because it has to be done. He may be just acting like he won't just to push your buttons. Don't let him get to you because more stress is not what you need. Back to my formula about not giving a f*uck and eating chocolate Missy. Things will be OK. Hugs! Thanks for the shout out!
Hi to Bear - I ran across some historical stuff about baseball yesterday. Apparently in 1864 the ball was sometimes called an "onion" and the bat a "willow." Who knew...
Sunday sunshine to Leo, Maynard, Autumn, Blue, Ida, Milily, Wonder and ZK. I will check back later!
I have a sick dog i think it is the doggy flu. She didnt wanna go out earlier she just wanted to lay around and she LOVES walks, she barely walked around just went potty and headed back in right away normally she goes nuts when i get her leash. Then she threw up not long ago and it all made sense She just wants to lay around and snuggle. Wont play or eat.
I have tried shots and all kinds of allergy pills but nothing works. It seems the older I get the worse my allergies are. I can't even open a window anymore. I hate having the house closed up all the time.
Miki I hope your run went great and you were able to enjoy the journey.
Twins I am sorry the cleanse didn't work. I had IBSC for many years before the D kicked in and I remember well the pain and discomfort. All the pushing and then having to have hernias in my bowels fixed. I hope something works soon.
Blue do you think you will go back to school once the GI Bill is over? You are smart to get as much out of it as you can. I am glad that they pay for school but I would think they would take better care for you in other ways as well. I believe all veterans should have a house built for them. It would keep vets off the streets and give them a place to find some kind of peace.
Angela I can't drink juice either or my BS soars. I hope you are able to get the doctor to help you tomorrow.
Leo I hope you were able to rest last night. I know sleep isn't going to be easy with that pain. I am praying it will at least let up enough for you to be able to tolerate it.
Maynard I am sorry that you are continuing to have so much pain. I am praying that tomorrow it will be better. Please rest and take it easy on your body. Hugs of support.
Gloomy but warm here. I am paying pain wise for the yard clean up I did yesterday, so I am having a low key day. I still have to finish the backyard, but I gave myself permission to do it another day , but the front yard looks marvelous darling.
Fantod - The Milily method made me smile. I have other gizmos for yard clean up too. I cant bend to do things much because of my lower spine. I cant do much actual gardening though , too hard on my back. I have some stuff that comes up each year and I usually buy some potted flowers when they go on sale.
Leo - I hope your recovery is going okay. It sickens me that the Drs expect you to take Tylenol for post op pain. It is inhumane.
Gotta run and finish the grocery list so my son can go to the store. Soft hugs to all.
