Newbie saying hi

Hello all. I'm early thirties, going on about two years of the fibro diagnosis, but four-ish years of fibro type problems. Since beginning Lyrica about two years ago, I have developed a crazy amount of food allergies, to the point of needing an epi-pen at all times 'just in case'. I've also started having intestinal spasms, maybe due to the allergies but we don't know. I'm transitioning from Lyrica to Cymbalta. Not sure that Lyrica has anything to do with it, but we're testing the idea since the issue seemed to start when I got on it and has increased as my dosage has. I'm super interested if anyone else has developed allergies while on Lyrica. Really, I'm just happy to know there's anyone out there that shares the struggle--though I wish none of us had these struggles! :)

I've never used Lyrica but I wanted to say welcome! This group has been such a great resource for me, as I hope it will also be for you :) good luck with the allergies

Welcome, soupy! I was only on Lyrica for 2 weeks and I gained 10 lbs. Your allergies sound awful.

Greetings, Soupy! Welcome:-) Three days on *Cymblata* was enough to convince me I can't go near that class of drugs, so I have no experience on Lyrica.

That said, feel free to drop by Check-In (our daily chit-chat and vent and so on), and if you haven't read "Fibro for Dummies", it's our go-to book. Good for us, family, friends, and for fantasies of hitting jerky doctors upside the head. (Oh, that's just me. Whoops.)

As for the crazy amount of allergies, hmm, that happened to a friend of my husband's, he hit thirty and wham, they piled up so fast! Nobody knows why, either, just whammo! Not celiac, just anything he could get allergic to, food-wise, he did. And he was med-free. So it does happen, but I agree the timinig is odd.

OK, off to do check-in (I start it these days, but it's been around longer than I have, and I'm about 6 years on DS now!)....

(BTW, I'm 20 years on my Fibro dx, still trucking. Who knew?)

Welcome soupy. I tried Lyrica but had way too many dark days on it. Just use alternative ways now. However, really bad food allergies began to appear about the same time that Fibro was diagnosed. I did not know what was going on and was told "IBS - part of fibromyalgia syndrome, take digestive enzymes." Worked for awhile but I kept forgetting them and more allergies to food cropped up. That meant IBS hell. Finally stopped all dairy, wheat, and deep-fried foods. This helps and my diet is healthier and the IBS more manageable. I hope you get some help real soon with this, allergies are just awful.
