Good morning.
My "rest up and rest" weekend was a total effing loss.
Mom needed (long list).
Hubby is having anxiety attacks all night. (Try not taking the cold meds at bedtime, and, oh, drinking three fewer cans of pop---that's soda, cola, soda pop depending where you are in the US---and maybe not eating sugar crap at 8 PM....)
I'm literally clenching my jaws *consciously* which is dumb, b/c I know TMJ is my enemy, but it's that or start scream-crying, and for some odd reason, that's not allowed right now. I'm so bloody sick with this cold that I literally fell over standing up the other day, which is not good, but who is making soup from scratch? Me. Who is keeping the house swept and dusted? Me. Who is doing fu**ing laundry? Me. Who is feeding the cats, managing the mom, makign the bed, wiping the tub? Me. Does Hubby have a cold? Yes. Can he effing well do more than sleep all day and complain all night that he can't sleep? *Yes*. IMHO, of course. I do feel bad, but who is making me the favorite soups? Nobody. Nobody is my best friend right now. Nobody is doing all the work for me, answering the phone, coping with Hubby', I just love that Nobody! That Nobody is doing it all for me!
I want my favorite soup without me making it. Hubby won't even heat me a damn cup of broth from a freaking container. No, wait. He *will*, but he spends the whole time with a cooking thermometer asking me how hot it has to be. How's this: Not going to blister my tongue? "What's that? In degrees?" So naturally who gets off the sickbed to explain (again) that a simmer is this, a boil is that, and just wait till it effing well *bubbles*, okay?!... "But how do I know..." Because! It doesn't bubble if it's too cold! WTH?!
BTW, if asked to heat a can of soup for himself, he gets out the cooking thermometer and complains the can doesn't come with directions for exact temperatures. This only started a couple years ago. He used to heat his own soup without a murmur. Hmph.
Oh, and BHubby asks me to make him flatbread to go with his soup. From scratch. What the (I can't spell that word it's in Polish) is that about? Buy some, Mr. Nyquil-Dayquil-Pepsi! With my epilepsy meds, I cannot take any cold stuff, I have to do the old-fashioned tea, steam, and *sleep* method.... or not.

OK, I had a horrible weekend of not-resting, can you tell?! LOL, pop goes the puma! *sproing*!

Today in 1542, Wife Number FIve of Henry VIII of England was executed for adultery, which equated to treason, which equated to.... Yeah, at a certain point, no matter how desperate one is for a male heir, or two, or ten, you should ask, "After divorcing a couple, beheading two, and having one drop dead after childbirth, should I really think myself a marrying man?"
Google's doodle today and for a few days honors the pangolin. WHat is that? Weird, for one thing. It's a mammal... with scales. (That's like hearing "furry reptile". Huh?) Pangolins are endangered due to trafficking. THey look like armadillos, to be honest, but they're basically anteaters, toothless, and are valued for their meat and... er... scaly-hide-things. (Ew.) pangolinpic
Pangolin scales are of the same material as fingernails on humans and horns on rhinos: Keratin. It's a protein, and it also forms the claws of critters like your dog and cat. Keratin is also the protein in your hair. It's common in the animal kingdom, and the only similar protein covering/growth with strength and so forth is chitin. WHat's chitin? It makes up the crunchy exoskeleton of bugs and spiders and crabs and similar.
What does this mean? Essentially, those folk remedies involving rhino horn and pangolin scales could be achieved by grinding up human fingernails and toenails, and nobody'd know the difference, and the endangered animals might stand a chance. See, this is what ignorance does to the world. Kills animals for something people already *have*. *headdesk*
How did I get here from there? How do I ever?
Today is considered one of the days on whcih Thomas Edison, inventor, observed what became known as the Edison Effect, which is that heated elements (as in his incandescent light bulb) will emit protons that travel to a cooler metal plate, in a vacuum. Edison was working on idea number gazillion for a better light bulb when he began to observe the effect in 1875, and refined the principle and the uses of it about a decade later. Being Edison, he patented the failed light bulb in case it was useful later. It was. It is the basis of the vacuum tube that founded modern electronics. It's named for him, because he had no clue what it was at the time. He wa sjust trying to making a better light bulb.

Off to find a happy place. For thsoe not in the know, last week, my mom's bankruptcy was rescheduled to April so we're still supporting her, and I found out via the pharmacy that my insurance company had canceled my policy by clerical error and was still taking my checks for premiums for two months but I was owing huge amounts in unpaid pharmacy bills and the pharmacy had cancelled my prescriptions, and my epilepsy doc is in freaking Holland on research, and I can't get two of my meds in generic b/c they don't come in generic. Soooo.....yes, we're stressed, and Hubby has legit anxieties, as he's the one working and I'm not, and he works on commission and it's the dead season for houses (He does mortgages) and and and and and and and....
and that was *without* the bloody head colds. Find a happy place, find a happy place....

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...
Bbmom, I hope your pain eases up and you can have a better afternoon. Enjoy your lunch! Our weather was very nice on Saturday, so much so that my girls were begging to go swimming. I loved it!!!!
Fantod, you sound a lot like how I feel today. Luckily, I've been good about hiding it, but my office door is closed right now and tears have come down. I hate being in pain at work. I hope you get a great nap, and tonight is much better. I can't sleep with noises, and we have walls that make cracking noises, what is that about! It sounds like our house might blow over in this Oklahoma wind. I would be out there waiting for that damn raccoon, you need a scarecrow, or a big flag that flies in the wind to scare it off. I don't know something. Sorry.
Miki, sending you sunshine to melt the snow!!
Angela, shower chairs are awesome. I used to use one when my fibro was constantly horrible. My mom has one too. I'm sorry about the anniversary. I have one coming up too in a few days and she's all I've been thinking about :(. Soothing (((hugs)))....
Fantod, I'm with Twin and can't sleep with any noise. I'd be setting booby traps from h*ll and that didn't get it, I'd be out there waiting with a shot gun. Anyway , I hope you guys can finally get rid of that critter. You've gotta be going bonkers by now. Btw, when my husband scoops the litter daily he expects a band to play.... Even worse if he ever does a dish or two of "mine", then he expects a mayoral parade in his honor. (major eyeroll).
Kel, glad the knee is doing better :)
Leo, hooray for getting ahold of your doc in Holland. I wonder what hoops that took? Yay for him telling them to get their rear ends in gear!
Twin, spending v-day with your girls is better than having no v-day at all. I'm so sorry you're crying at work. I wish there was something to take your sadness away :(. Sending you chocolate chips and rainbows....
Bobbii, sure wish your cough would go away! I'll say a prayer your lesson goes OK tomorrow.
Bbmom, Hm, weird about your legs. Maybe they just ache so much the heat doesn't feel like it's getting through? I will feel cold all over my body, especially my shoulders when I hurt. But my husband will be sweating with fans blowing on him and it could be 70 out? Fibro is weird. Have you tried a hot bath or the hot tub?
Ida, prayers the best plan is what God provides for you.
I hope I didn't miss anyone. Have a blessed week!
Angela, sorry to hear about your Auntie Peg. If it isn't one thing it is another. Please be strong. We are all here for you. Maybe she will do more chemo when she gets stronger. Thinking of you.
Twin, sorry you are having a bad day. Cry it out. Sometimes you just have to do that. When we saw the weather hubby goes "could you imagine leaving here where it is zero to go to that all in one day"? I would like to try to imagine. Our wind has been wicked, but I am sure it is no comparison to the OK winds. Hang in there friend.
Blue, I hope you get a shower today. I noticed our gas and electric bill has gone up a lot, but we use gas for heat and it has been very cold. I refuse to freeze in my own home. I have friends and relatives that keep it at 60, no way. At least 70 for me. I work too damn hard to freeze in my house. I hope your day goes well and that you get your appointments moved around.
Still plugging away here. I have a headache for some reason. Nothing planned tonight, yahoo!!
Bbmom, I totally hear yah on the heat. You work for it, you should have the right to be comfortable! 60 is too cold! I look like an eskimo in that weather. The landlady said it's normal for Jan's bill to be a little high, but we thought it was weird to be THAT high. Property manager said the water heaters were due for maintenance and suspected it was the culprit. I'm waiting for an update from him... perhaps to inform us our bill will go back down now?
Miki, that wind is no joke. We've been getting winds like that lately and it's a little scary. Can't imagine in it in the snow! Maybe hang out with a few single friends for v-day? Count your blessings that you're still single. Being married on v-day (or any day) isn't that romantic. At least you're not stuck with a ball-n-chain husband to tick you off day after day. I was always happier when it was just me and my cats. Now I understand why crazy cat ladies exist! lol. Here's a tip, get yourself a box of chocolates for v-day :). You deserve it.
Tomorrow for v-day: I'm going to meet my husband on his lunch break and we'll go to that hidden beach we found behind the airport for a quick swim. When he gets off work we're going up the mountain to a restaurant we once ate in when we 1st moved here. It took the 2 of us to plan the day because it seemed like my husband wasn't really thinking about it. I made all the suggestions and worked around his schedule. I feel awkward doing that like i"m telling him what to do for our date, but what can you do? Either that or I sit at home and pout.
Leo - What is with your husbands obsession with food thermometers ? I hope you feel better soon. Could you fax the info needed to the insurance co. - it would get the ball rolling quicker. Give the insurance co hell - ask to speak to a supervisor , threaten to report them to the Better Business Bureau or anything else you can think of - that is nonsense.
Miki - wow you have had a lot of snow lately where you live. Currently there is no snow on the ground where I live in SW Michigan. I am sure we will get some soon. Bonus , a day off . I bet your dog appreciated having you home.
Kel - good news that your seizures are decreasing and your knee is better. After 4 of my family members died in less than 4 years starting with my Mothers sudden death in 2005, I have decided losing the people we love is the hardest part of life. Clearing out my Mothers house and selling it (mostly by myself) was a very difficult time. Sometimes I would take breaks and lay in her bed and just allow myself to be sad.
Bobbii - wow , you have a lot going on physically - I hope you feel better soon and your voice holds out for teaching.
Angela - Take some time to just take care of you. I hope you feel better.
Fantod - sorry you are feeling tired and horrible. Would your partner do better with lists of what needs to be done? My ex did and my son does better with lists and then I dont feel like a nag. That being said, when I had my 2 extensive abdominal surgeries 3 months apart and I was still married I had to call in reinforcements, because my ex couldnt handle the extra responsibilities. I know your friend was there the first week. BE GONE RACCOON.
Blue - sadly your husband has a lot in common with my ex. His priorities were always himself and what he wanted to do and not his wife nor son. Sometimes he would just leave the house and not say anything - excuse me. I am glad your husband went to the beach with you and not kite boarding. A trip sounds awesome.
BBMom - I hope things slow down for you at work . 12 hours of OT - wow.
Ida - If she doesnt finance you could you try someone else? Enjoy those grandbabies. I have not been around a little one in a long time.
Twin - I hope the museum trip goes well. I hope your pain decreases and you can get better sleep tonight.
Miki - just read your last post . I wouldnt respond , it just opens the door for more harassment. I finally got my phone stalker ex husband to leave me alone after almost 3 years of harassment after separating after finally threatening him with a restraining order . I will not call or text him ever, because it would make him think it is okay to start being a phone stalker again.
So , Saturday I woke up with major pain in my left shoulder and left side of neck - I guess I slept funny on those areas. I couldnt hardly turn my neck to the left because of pain and spasms. It is slowly getting better.
Our winds were up to 52 yesterday. I hate the sounds that high of wind makes. We were lucky not to lose power as many in our county did.
Been working on dishes after dinner . Now it is time to take pain/muscle relaxer meds and lay down in comfy bed with the heating pad and watch something on my laptop.
Milily, hope your neck and shoulder feels better soon. I hate it when I have issues turning my head. Yeah, we start marital counseling Wed. I hope it can get us somewhere. I'm scared we're going to keep growing apart.
I will be babysitting tomorrow and will leave for my daughter's on Wednesday morning. Then Thursday is the house hunting.
Hope everyone sleeps well, and I'll probably repeat myself tomorrow. But I wanted to tell you guys.
Take care.
Milily, I hope you are feeling a bit better today. I hate when everything is sore and stiff, especially my neck.
