hello all!
Im new to this group and diagnosis. I never imagined chronic pain would enter my life at 31 years of age...it began with bulging discs at 26 and the pain spread. My rheumatologist has me on 30 mg of cymbalta. It only works so much...60 mg gave me extreme nightmares. I'm also taking prednisone which is not expected to be long term. My blood work shows elevated inflammation but I'm negative on the ANA. We are going on 2 years without a total diagnosis...I'm tired of pills...I'm tired of pain...the pain the comes out of nowhere and makes you want to lay in bed and cry...I'm married so sexual activity is limited at times due to the pain. My husband as well as friends and family are extremely supportive so I'm blessed on that area... I just always feel like a burden..like I'm complaining...I don't think many understand this ailment...apparently I don't "look sick" so I guess it's hard for people to understand. Today my pain level is high and I wish I can just lay down and sleep but I'm working today. Luckily I work from home...I'm looking for support and advice...tips to manage the pain..tips on how to get through this...its just a lot at time. I'm sure you all can relate

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

There are other options in addition to Cymbalta. Gabapentin, Savella, Lyrica, and/or muscle relaxers. And, you should be on a medication for sleep. Fibromyalgia interrupts the deep sleep cycle with short bursts of high intensity brain activity. Your muscles require deep sleep in order to recover from the days activities. No deep sleep means higher levels of pain. We generally recommend that you have a sleep study done to really pinpoint any sleep issues. It takes a lot of experimentation to find the right medication regimen for each patient. We are all on different medication cocktails.
Bottom line is that you have to be your own best advocate. Most of us have underlying health issues of varying complexity. It's frustrating and we all have days when just the basic mechanics of everyday living seems to be too much.
Every morning, our brainy and lovely spokesmodel, Leo, hosts morning check in. Just look for the puma avatar and the day of the week in the heading. Leo dazzles us with interesting trivia and some story telling. It is a good way to get to know everyone and not feel so isolated. Feel free to jump in.
You are not alone in your pain and frustration. Ask questions and vent away!
And, you may want to consider finding a counselor for some extra support. Many of us see someone for some guidance. The best type of therapy for this situation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It will give you tools to better cope with a diagnosis of chronic illness. You deserve a better quality of life.
Hang in there. Things will get better.
