ask your allsup rep. I could not file for ssdi until they were sure that I was not going to work.

I am currently 3 yrs in on my battle with SSA, I've been denied 3 or 4 times and the most recent was my hearing. The whole point is proving you can't work, so by going and getting a job you are proving them right. I know it sucks and its a major struggle but I've let my credit go, I've got $30k just in medical bills, another $20k in student loans on top of $$30k in credit cards. I'll be 25 in August and struggle every day with depression, it seems never ending. It doesn't make since how we have to prove we are unable to work, but if you are on disability your allowed to work and make a limited income. It's all a joke. Their last excuse for denying me was i'm obese. Well duh, I gained weight from not being able to do ANYthing. Stay strong.

Unfortunately, you can not work while applying for SSDI. If you do, than you will be denied.

Have you checked with the State to see if you and/or your friend would qualify for any assistance while you wait? I'm sorry that you find yourself in such difficult circumstances. Take care and keep in touch.

I feel for you, but don't know anything about SSI.

I do know that one of the key things is to get a good doctor who understands your limitations and knows the language to use on reports.

When I inquired with Allsup they wouldn't take my case because I had a home-based business. They said if I was doing any kind of work at all I would automatically be denied. I agree with nopainplease - you need to ask your Allsup rep.

Part of the "game" is the delay - most people give up before they get through the process and finally get approved.

I also have heard that people have been awarded when they have worked saying trial period? They may have lost the job and then were approved and they had to work while waiting. Any advice anyone?Thanks

Guess that really didn't answer the question - no I never applied. I was fortunate enough to find a job where I would work a schedule that I could manage.

Unfortunately I just lost that job in May and have now looked into applying again, but I can't afford to go three years without any income at all so I guess I'll be trying to tough it out a while longer if I'm lucky enough to find a job.

I will have to get job because it has been too long without income and I have no money for basic needs. On top of it is the fact that it is tough finding a job and one I could do.
So any more suggestions from anyone would be welcomed.

I believe if it is felt you can work and are working they would more then likely deny you SSD. But agree with others and would talk with Allsup explain your situation and they maybe can give you some advice on options to get by till you get a decision.


Not sure what it is like in your state but here if you are applying for disabiity they have county help you can apply for while you are waiting for your decision. I did sign papers with the county that if won my case & was back pay they would be repaid the cash amount. But if no back pay then was said would not have to pay it back. My medical was also covered. My attorney recommended this when I was appealing.

Some churches sometimes are a good source of help for some things as well.
