Good morning:-) Shout-out to Fantod for picking up on a deleted-user thread being bumped. I missed that one. Remember, "Deleted_User" is just that. On Twitter, it's a legit handle, but here on DS? They're lnog gone, and their posts are usually far out-of-date, which renders much information in them suspect. E.g., we know more now than we did in 2010 about (pick anything).
And thank goodness! It's Friday!
Or, as I'm calling it, FRY day. We hit near 100*F for, oh, the next 10 days... In a row... with high humidity... Call me when it's October? Yikes!

My life's entertainment value is high today.
Me to US Department of State person: "What defines a long-form birth certificate."
The drone: "It has to have your parents' names on it."
Me: "So what's wrong with mine? IT has that, and their signatures."
Drone: "Let me transfer you."
Me: "Don't..."
*dial tone*
I call back...
Me after waiting 20 minutes on hold: "Hi, I was talking to ..."
Recording: 'Please visit this website andorder copies of your birth certificat eto resolve your problem."
Me: "You're nota human voice."
So I call my county of birth.
Bored Drone: "Visit htis website, please." (same website)*click*
OK, I give up. I visit website. OMG. I had no idea states contract out to this company when you request copies of documents.
*jawdrop* What the hell're they doing in the county courthouse where I grew up, playing checkers? Hello? Not much going on, you can bloody well answer the phone and mail copies to me yourselves! I know who you are! Literally! The county records clerk is a kid sibling of someone I went to school with. Yo! WTF?
***
Yeah. Meanwhile, this company/website makes huge money off... doing what county clerks are paid to do. Wait, what? *headscratch* I am too old for this crap, y'all. And too old, apparently, b/c I don't see the sense in that system at all. Ever.
***
Then I overheard Hubby calling to get a copy of his birth certificate for our passport apps: "OK, spell that website again..."
I yelled out the spelling.
Hubby set down the phone and said, "You're kidding."
Nope. One site to rule them all, and in the database bind them? (If you get the reference, you get extra cookies!)

The puma is off to prowl. Mom sees her doc today, and I have umpteen loads of laundry since we had to mop up the water and stuff... Yep, great for that sciatic and fibro, right?
Purrfect day to all!

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...
I do a lot of data binding for the county....:-) We still do our own forms up in the frozen wasteland! Well, not quite so frozen here either for the next few days with highs in the mid to upper 80's.
My Mom came home the other day. She can make it to the bathroom...barely...other than that she just kind of sits there. I think she is a little stronger than when they first sent her home though. I've been very sore lately and it's really starting to get to me. I usually try to "play thru the pain" and just let the nature of the pain slow me down until it gets at least a little better. Now I have pain from my shoulders down...head isn't so bad today so at least I have that going for me! :-) Don't know what caused the flair but am sure it will get better with time.
Hope you all have a fabulous Friday!
Kel
PuppyDad might have to drop everything and go to my inlaws on Saturday. We are part of those 220 million to be under the heatwave by then and they don't see the need to turn on the air conditioners OR open a window. Also, they have electrical problems. My FIL thinks that the electrical company has used the meter to remotely access his wiring in the house and turn on and off outlets as they select. PuppyDad and I are pretty sure that it is some other problem.. .
Anyway, working on laundry to put on the line and off to run out to get groceries before they spoil faster than I can uload the car. I'll check back in later.
Kel-I hope things get better for your mom, and for you. Try to enjoy the rare warm weather lol
Puppymom-sorry you're working so much this week, I hope next week will be slower. Good luck to Puppydad, that doesn't sound like it'll be a pleasant trip. Hugs
I had a lot of trouble falling asleep last night, not sure why. I was reading and my eyes were barely staying open so obviously I was tired. Thankfully today looks like it'll be slow. And we're going to be in the 90s at least until next Wednesday, with the humidity coming back tomorrow and Sunday. Obviously I won't be able to bring my dog to the trails so I should have time to get some other stuff done. I'm also hopefully buying Dierks Bentley tickets today, assuming bf will go with me. Not gonna be good seats but I've been dying to see him in concert for years so I want to make it happen.
Leo, any government voicemail is a loop of doom. Once you get into that phone tree, there's no way you'll ever reach a person. I spent 30 minutes of my life on that this past week trying to switch stuff out for our boys secondary MA coverage for their autism stuff.
What happens if you call and don't hit any prompts? There are still phones out there that are still rotary dial and can not work with touch tone phone prompts. So, as a catch all, most companies have a clause where if you don't press a prompt, you get patched through to someone. Then again, if that someone just tosses you into the phone tree, you're doomed again.
Kel, I'm so sorry to hear you're in a flare. But I'm happy you are only getting into the 80s today. As our weather guy refers to your neck of the woods as "Nature's AirConditioning".
We're in the nasty can't breathe heat advisory here. 108 for the feels like. 97 on the mercury. And you just know that they are lying through their teeth so some people still go into work today, LOL.
I hope your flare decides to leave you soon.
Puppymom, you know, our electric company runs a deal for older homes, that they deem not efficient, and they like to add a "switch" as they call it. Where they have the authority (after you sign off on their sale tactics) to turn your A/C off for you and run it every 15 minutes. We used to get those sale calls all the time, as in our former home, our A/C was running non stop in the summer time because of how old it was and how horrible our house was with trapped heat (no cold air returns in half the house).
I always refused the service and said that when it was 80- outside, it was well over 90 inside w/out A/C. I could maybe get it to 78 inside WITH the AC on non stop.
I don't miss that house. Still is sitting for sale. I'm sorry you have to work tomorrow. And I do hope you get paid for your time.
Well, as I shared, it's an inferno outside. My pasty white-freckled skin sizzles as I step out into the heat. Actually last night there was a gentle breeze after the sun went down and it was quite comfy out side. But in the sunlight, nope, I just sizzle like a piece of bacon.
But it's grocery day. Oh. The. Joy. Maybe I'll toss in some fun popsicles or something.
Hope everyone has a great day today.
Leo, Your situation with the birth certificate sounds very frustrating. They definitely don't make things easy. I hope your mom's appointment goes good and you have a good day.
Kel, I'm sorry your pain is so high right now. Sometimes it is easier to shrug the pain off, other times I just meltdown and say I can't do anymore. I say listen to your body and really rest this weekend. I'm glad your mom is home, but sorry she is struggling so much. I hate seeing our parents get older.
puppymom, I say a tough week calls for a special treat. Try and pick up something for yourself this weekend that makes you happy. I'm sorry you're working tomorrow too. I hope you find something to enjoy today.
miki, I hate when I'm tired but I can't get to sleep, that's so frustrating. I hope you get the tickets.
Hi Mystic, I don't know how you travel for work, that would kill my pain and anxiety. I'm praying the medical test come back good and you get some relief this weekend too.
Wonder, popsicles sound good in this heat. It's pretty hot here too and we're still getting a lot of humidity. I"m hoping the cupcakes don't melt on the way home. Have fun with those boys.
Yesterday did not turn out as I hoped. I didn't leave early enough to really go shopping so I rushed home and got a load of laundry in and then I had a second to look online at some toys and costumes. My children are weird they love dress-up clothes. The appointment went well and Addison's doctor is going to contact her old therapist to see if she can schedule Addison in her week. I hope b/c Addison felt comfortable with her and they did a lot of arty's crafts together while they talked. Addison loved that.
So I got a few presents ordered last night, bought decorations and plates last weekend, and have the cakes ordered. I don't feel as stressed about it. This weekend is cupcakes and taking my mom out to eat for her birthday. I really hope to get some time to clean and clean things out. Oh and I guess I will rest on Monday when I return to work. Geez
I hope everyone has a good Friday.
Check -In
I woke up not feeling refreshed today. Still very tired. I believe it's from the medication. I know it will get better. Pray all is well.
I will check back in later today. Have a wonderful and blessed day.
Leo my bc is a small 3x5 card that is folded and in a sleeve. If there was a larger one it burned when the hospital I was born in burned.
Miki I hope you have a quiet day and a great weekend.
Fantod I love to watch the deer. We used to have lots of them walk through our yard.
Twins I am glad that you ordered the gifts and such. I hope you have a great weekend. Don't overdo lol. I know you will you always do. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
Wonder be careful in the heat as you get groceries.
I feel guilty because our temps are nowhere close to what many of you are experiencing. Please take care drink lots and stay as cool as possible.
Thanks for the warning, Leo... I need to get a copy of mine too. They make everything complicated these days. I thought advancement in technology was supposed to make life EASIER? I hope your mom's appt went well and good luck with laundry.
Ended up having to run to CostCo because we ran out of cat litter and eggs (the only affordable eggs are in CostCo). Next time my husband plans on making a trip off island, he absolutely needs to stock up on cat litter before he leaves. I wrenched my back getting the litter into the cart and then out of the cart into my truck. Then I had to find a way to get it into the catio without killing myself any further. Needless to say I'm hurting today and will be taking it easy. Geez.
Side note: I should write a letter to Sam's club and beg them to open a store here on the island to give CostCo some competition. We have one CostCo and one Walmart here.... for the entire county of Maui, which includes the smaller islands around it: Lana'i and Moloka'i who ferry over to shop at CostCo. The parking lot was total gridlock yesterday. What a zoo! Geez, what did these people do before the era of Walmart and CostCo?
Back in a bit.
My mother's phone appears to be not working. Xfinity was supposed to be there yesterday to make the change over. I can't reach her so I have no idea what went on. Then I tried calling Xfinity and it is a 2-4 hour wait to talk to anyone. I am really ticked off. I'm in a call back line so eventually I will get to talk to someone. Her phone is a traditional land line so it should not be affected by any outage that they may be experiencing. This is so frustrating.
Had a nice time with the niece yesterday. We had lunch, did a quick Target run and then a movie. We saw "Adrift" which is a sailing adventure based on a true story. It was pretty good better (probably) than the other movie she picked out.
Leo - I know which company you are talking about. They've been around at least 10 years and handle every state as far as I know. I had to go through them to get my mother's birth certificate a few years back because all she had was the hospital issued one which is basically useless now. Nothing is simple anymore. I hope that you get what you need.
Kel - Glad to hear that your Mom made it home. I'm sorry that you are in a flare. I hope that you can just relax this weekend.
PuppyMom - I had to kind of laugh about your FIl and the wiring. And it made me sad too. My Mom doesn't always run the AC. I'll get over there and the house is too warm, My Mom just had an issue in her kitchen which required an electrician. I may need one too. I have double switch in the living room. One controls the overhead fan and the other an outside light. Now, you have to turn the outside light on for the fan to work. My partner will investigate that this weekend. He's pretty handy so I hope that he can fix it. I hope that your weekend turns out OK.
Miki - I hope that you are able to get those concert tickets! And, that your day does not turn out to be too busy.
Hi Mystic - Great to see you. I hope that your Friday is going well.
AngelaJo - I hope that you get home from your errands and can get off of those feet. I can't imagine how painful that must be.
Wonder - I just know that you are glad to be out of the old house on super hot days. When I lived in FL, we had rolling blackouts to support the power gird. It was horrible. The A/C would go off with no warning for a few hours. I hated it. And, you could opt to let them do that to lower your electric bill. No thank you. I hope that you and the boys are having a fun day.
Hi Twin - I'm sorry that you continue to have to rush around all of the time. I wish you could catch a break. The girls are going to have so much fun for their birthdays! Cross something off of your list so you can get a bit of down time. Surely something can wait. Hugs!
Hi Pam - Medication hangovers are the worst. Lots and lots of water. I hope that by the time you see this things have improved.
Autumn - I hate steroids. I want to eat everything that crosses my path and can't sleep. And then, I get meaner than a sunburned rattlesnake. I hope that they are worth it in the long run. Take care of yourself.
Blue - Both Sam's Club and Costco here are now officially crazy because of the upcoming holiday. People here head up North this weekend and stay put for a few days. Any road going North will be insane too. I try to time my visits to those stores differently around any holiday. I'm sorry that you wrenched your back wrestling cat litter. I can totally relate to that. I hope that you can get some relaxation in today. Hugs!
OK - Off to move the hose and get the house in some semblance of order while I wait for my call back. I'm going to try my mother's cell phone on the off chance that she actually answers it. Not. I will check back later.
