Hi,
I seem to have some weird sensory stuff going on... but WOW...
My kids (4 of them) are mostly in different stages of childhood. They are all interested in different things etc and the noise is driving me bat crap crazy!
I've got a toddler grabbing an ipad and putting on sesame street or crying or using some other loud toy (believe me I've hidden what I can)....
A teenager singing One Direction at the top of her lungs... there is always music coming from her room and yeah sometimes its load other times its not.
A nine year old boy who loves his computer games and there is constant beeping and music from that...
And an 11 yr old that has decided to learn the guitar.....
There is just freakin noise ALL.THE.TIME!!!!!!!!!! What do other people do? I can't hide- if nothing else- the toddler needs me. I can usually get the noise down a little bit by asking someone to use headphone but that isn't always appropriate. It also means I just hear singing without the backing music....
The thing is if it has gotten bad even once they have all quietened down the tiniest noises then make me fly off the handle!
Does anyone know what I can do? Have any theories? I don't want to feel like my head is going to explode OR yell at the kids.
On a different note- when I have a headache (quite often) I get super smell. I can smell perfume a mile away. I can smell food from next door and it makes me nauseus.
I have issues with my sight when I feel that way too. Floaters and photosensitivity. It Sucks.
Any advice?

I have heard that fibro causes noise sensitivity. It sure is that way for me. I wish I had answers to help you.
Maybe the stress makes ones senses more accute. I dont know,
Maybe you can have a scheduled time for them to do their singing, guitar playing, Like two hours a day and those two hours you go shopping or get out of the house. Maybe put the toddler in a stroler and go for a walk or to the mall just to get out and away,
That way they have two hours to do their things and when you return their time ends.
I like what Magic said about having a scheduled time. I don't know how cooperative your kids would be about that, but it would be worth a try. Good luck!
Good luck!
Hugs to you.
I'm so sorry you're having to deal with fibro and raising a young family, you are my hero. It must be so hard.
Have you thought of using an mp3 and listening to your own music while the chaos is going on?
Hugs to you.
I do neck rubs to help reduce the tensed muscles from the "fullness" of the sound.
Once I found the triggers of the switch from sound to "fullness" sound, it was easier to find a way around the "pain" from the "fullness".
I am hard of hearing, so the evaluation with an audiologist who understands fibromyalgia (which definitely affects the ability to hear clarity), involved some tests to relate the physical symptoms to the hearing ability.
The time this specialist spent with me to introduce ways to help me reduce the muscle tension associated with "fullness" sounds has been a real life-saver.
When I first heard loud strong noise unexpectedly, I would jump, twist, turn, and experience the spasms all over. Then as I worked through each of these triggers, I was able to get to the sound switch, and it's hard to explain.
Best wishes, and know you are not alone with this particular physical symptom.
