As you may have read in my previous post about the new landlord we have been dealing with....
We moved from Oahu to Maui about a month ago to a house-share situation with the understanding that it was going to be temporary while he worked on the cottage in the back, then he was going to move out, into it. Renting the whole house to us.
From day one our personalities have clashed on a daily basis. Not only has he been micro managing every little cotton pickin thing we do, it's endless lectures on what food I eat, how poisonous sugars are for you, doctors are all quacks, what to do with my cats, what to feed them, how much they should play outside, how bad dryer sheets are, he wrote black marker all over the dryer and washing machines (to tell us how NOT to use it, "don't turn the kitchen spigot this way, turn it that way", "don't use the shower this way, use it that way", what would cure my FM, .... I could go on and on and on...!
Even attacks my gender when saying things like, "Maybe it's a guy thing, because when I explain it to guys they understand." when referring to the washing machine, dryer, spigots, showers, plumbing, etc... No! It's not a gender thing, it's an over lording @$$hole thing!
Anyway, after a few arguments lately (shouting matches) he told us the other day, we aren't working out and he doesn't like having tenants who are nothing but "drama" so it's best we move out after our lease is up. So we continued unpacking and set up our bed and the guest bedroom. I felt every uneasy about it and started looking other rentals. My husband told me to stop looking because we should try and work it out with him.
So this morning, the landlord came out and told us he doesn't want to wait for the lease to run out and we should move out when we're ready to go. He told us he never had any intentions of moving out and he really wants to find tenants he can LIVE with and get along with AND WE'RE JSUT NOT IT. He's especially worried about when my mom plans to move in and feels that will overwhelm him. What an A-Hole this man!
We just unpacked and now we have to pack it all back up! I told hubby we way back it was a bad idea to take this rental and I was right! He can't understand why I'm so stressed / angry about it. Poeple without fibro don't get it. They dont' understand the energy and pain that goes into a move!
Thanks for reading my very long post.....

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. I know I posted the following in the check in thread but wanted to give a general update here too.
I will start packing some things this week. But hubby told me not to worry about it. He seems to think we should put off moving till he gets back from his 3 week trip in July and THEN start seriously looking for a place. I told him if I find a place while he's gone, I'll recruit people to help me move, because I'm outa here, baby! I don't have to wait for him to get back. Nope. I'll do what I have to!
Besides, if we do land a place, whether it before he leaves or after, I'd rather have some things packed up and save some energy than be scrambling and killing myself. Pace pace pace! That's the key.
Well the games with this man continue!
A few days ago he says it's not working out with us and doesn't want to wait out our lease so we should move when we're ready. Those were HIS words, not ours.
Then come the weekend when we hinted at getting something in writing he tells us he is converting our lease to a month to month which didn't really bother me.
Today, he tells us he is writing up a month to month lease for us to sign BUT that if we want to move out we have to give a 30 day notice! WTF. This guy is mentally sick.
My husband was running out the door to go somewhere and told me not to talk to him, do not negotiate with him, just accept whatever he says because he wants "peace". Dude, I'm sick of walking on eggshells around this dude while he keeps playing games with our lives. I'm not signing anything. I don't care what my husband said, if the landlord tries to talk to me about the "lease" I'm telling him straight up, if we find a place, we're out of here! This is &$*%($#&*^ bullsh*t.
That guy straight up lied to you about the situation before you moved in , you owe him nothing. He owes you a complete release from the lease.
That is a good idea to record him .
No, he just wanted what he wanted, never wanting to understand.
Hoping you are able to find another place to live, a better place with calm, peace to live your lives without a constant problem person.
What has happened to you reminds me of how I never take for granted my living environment.
OK, sign nothing, say nothing, pack everything, schedule yourself so you're around him as little as possible, and answer all questions with, "I can't do anything without my husband, and he's busy." You may have to try to not vomit at that last sentence, since it frankly makes *me* gag, but the man's already got contempt for you. Shunt him off to your husband, and you'll be able to do your thing in peace and hopefully your hubby will catch some of the flak and wake the heck up and smell the Kona coffee beans. And you can pack:-)
Much power to you. I hate sounding all Machiavellian, but surviving my dad and his family? You learn a few things.
Also, prepare for him to report you as a trespasser/intruder. Worst case scenario, but if he skipped the food fight, the threat of cops or lawsuits is one of the usual options in such sicko head games.
Are you *sure* he's nto really a tall super-thin embittered brunette woman with a nose like the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz movie and a voice that'd cut teak with the twang? Using a cane? Gies off a stench of evil? The feds were looking for my evil aunt last year regarding some stuff, and nobody knows where she is, soooo.... Hmm... Sorry, not making light of your situation, but wow, deja voodoo.
We had a talk with the landlord right after breakfast while secretly recording the conversation.... We successfully got him to admit that HE let us out of the original lease. Even said he would be willing to "tear it up." But he still wants to replace it with a month to month lease. We told him we aren't ok with his request that we should give a 30 day notice since we're not the ones backing out of the original agreement, but he is. He said he needs a day to think it over.
In other landlord news, our previous landlord from Oahu still hasn't returned our deposit to us and it's past the legal window. I told hubby it's time to take our pile evidence to a lawyer and see what kind of "damages" we can get. The guy broke so many laws, it ain't funny. The worst part is, he's an attorney! What's with Hawaii and crooked landlords? SMH
