so i got my blood tests back and my thyroid, liver, kidneys, iron are all fine. my d levels are low even for someone taking supplements 1-2x daily, but i don't feel that it's a direct contributor to the pain, although i will gladly take more vitamins.
my doctor suggested cymbalta at a low dose to start. i said maybe, that i have to think about it, weigh my options, do my research. part of me really just wants to start taking it because i would love to get some relief from the pain and the grindy grossness i feel when i move around.
the other part of me doesn't want to turn into a plump zombie floating around in the neutral zone(especially since i already chronically struggle with maintaining my weight even with a healthful lifestyle). i would rather feel pain and passion than feel nothing but safety. (i'm an artist...)
what to do? i could just try it out, but it sounds like withdrawals are horrible, and i can't really take time off from work or school to deal with that situation, should it arise.
but it could be great! i could feel, like some people have said, 70% better! and what if some relief from my symptoms actually benefits my creative/passionate side?
but what if i start acting like a different person, or get erratic and offensive and embarrass myself?
i'm taking 5htp right now for about a month and it feels like it's starting to finally help my mood, but not the pain. doc says i can take both at once. but what if THAT's bad? or what if it's great?
i'm so confused. i'm pretty sure i'm going to take it but i'm really nervous about it.
thanks for reading my roller coaster of a post, here.

Another day, another ouchie? My bruised achilles tendon (don't ask) makes my foot numb. Wonky on meds, whacked it.Now, as to fibro:A lot of reports are going around some parts of social media that fibro (and dang near anything else) are caused by post-Covid, post-flu, post-vaccinations, post-pick-something.1. Your risk of death or serious complications beyond "ow, that shot hurt!" are typically...

Well..my thyroid might be a problem. I have a high TSH but normal T4. TSH increases when your thyroid isn't producing enough thyroid hormones...if only the TSH is high, it could be early or subclinical. Will wait and see if they want to do anything about that or just recheck it at some point. Either it'll even out or my T4 will drop. Meanwhile it's hot and I'm working with Karen, and I have no...

ugh. maybe i'll just take the vitamins and go on a cleanse. (i wish this was a solution.)
i'm so frustrated...
oh hey, i was wondering, does anybody notice the pain bouncing around throughout the day, maybe from one arm to the next, or to the legs, or suddenly you have crazy stiff knees?
anybody have really tight calcaneal tendons and severe pain in the heels of their feet? this is my most common pain, but i think it might actually be muscular and not really related to fm.
I had a bad reaction to cymbalta right away. I tokbit 4 or 5 days tryjng to push thru and deal with side effects becaude this was, atvthat time in 2007, the only medicine prescribed for fibro. I had eye pain and dilated eyes and difficulty urinating. By dayb5 i was so miserable and had i think my bladder and kidneys were readybto blow up from all the inability to go to the bathroom....weirdest side effect i have ever had to a medication.
Yes the pain biunces around for me as well.
Your foot pain is probably plantar fasciitis. I have thatvas well and is commin withbfibro too. I had steroid injections in my heels/feet and it hurt terribly but after that i didnt have the severe pain anymore..it has crept back slowly but not near as bad as it was. It is abiut 80% better.
it's good to know cymbalta is there waiting for me if other options don't work. i'd like relief from the pain, especially today... but it does seem like the 5htp has finally started to help with the emotional side and the involuntary urge to give up on life.
i'm going to do some research on diet, too, and see if my insurance will cover massage therapy. my doctor said she could give me a referral.
anyone know about diet, massage, alternative solutions?
Starting a new drug is a hard decision for all of us and is completely up to that person. For some a natural approach is better and for others the drug route is the ways to go. For me I find that a combo of both seem to be right. You are doing the right thing is researching...just keep in mind that most times the people that express things online are those that have problems...we bitch when things are horrible and when things are awesome we don't. Just my opinion though...good luck!
i've noticed that there is a repeating theme that people say cymbalta helps with the emotional pain but not so much with the physical pain. i may try a more natural route until i see the doctor again in a few weeks, since it's really the pain i would be taking the pills for. not that i'm not horrendously, darkly depressed and could benefit from antidepressants, but i'm just not ready for something of this caliber.
A key point to remember is that the longer a chronic pain cycle continues, the harder it becomes to manage or stop. Only certain classes of prescribed medications are effective for this Neuro muscular disorder.
I'd like to suggest that you order a book called " Fibromyalgia for Dummies." You can purchase it online at Amazon. It will give you a comprehensive overview of this complex illness. Knowledge is power.
I've tried a lot of the same supplements. Ultimately, I decided that I deserved a better quality of life. No one likes living with medication side effects. I chose to live with then as opposed to unrelenting high levels of pain. Take care.
