That township is also the same place where the home was burned down twice because the man was moving there.

That whole side of the state is a bit off their rocker if you ask me. I warn people that ask me where to live in WI about that area too. Most still say they have to live in or near the city, which is where that is. Then again my belief is that people in town don't have enough to do, so they have nothing better to do than to get into other people's business. Worrying about things that are just silly if they just saw themselves from the outside. There is just so much more to life than all that FEAR.

This is when we need people to go to the meetings and distribute literature or just talk to people. Anger is born out of fear and fear mongering by the media increases their audience. Vicki

I completely agree, unfortunately I am 2 1/2 hours from there... And the SOs from that area, are all pretty fearful for themselves... I can't say that I blame them either. Those on supervision in that area are under some of the strictest supervision I have heard about throughout the state, even over the Milwaukee area.

I just wish I had more time, more money and didn't have to work a full-time job myself. Or I could attend all the meetings that take place throughout the state on these matters.

WI needs to challenge these local laws.

A few years back some argued that local laws were invalid because they were harsher than state but it was upheld that local could do these laws because there was no corresponding state laws (I think I have that correct).

But no one has challenged the constitutionality of these ordinance. Especially the original domain laws which say no sex offender can move into a town unless they were a resident of that town when convicted. Crazy. They are just banning sex offenders. No challenge. And multiple towns have that law.

I read dozens and dozens of WI city ordinances when we were thinking of moving there. Some are more common sense than others. Few seem to ever have to be enforced which proves how silly they are to begin with.

Some lawmakers are being held at bay by their own constituents. As there have been posts before lawmakers and leaders are starting to get smart that the registry does NOTHING to prevent crime and only is there for punishment.

They themselves know that if you alienate someone that only and potentially causes even more problems.

The "We The People" just don't understand of how most offenders are not going to offend again. Yes there are still knuckleheads out there making a bad name for all of us.

It is only getting worse... and every time there is something on the news about it... it drives a further wedge and seems to validate everyone's thinking. Therefore true reform can never happen.

Challenging the law takes lots money and a good case. Not to mention finding an attorney that can take on the job. Then there is the person putting their name and safety out there on the like for the folks like the guy that burned down the Dept of Health services house that they rented from a private citizen to house a release SO.

Also in order to challenge those local ordinances someone within that township has to be harmed by that law to bring it forward.

The locales that have the residency restrictions are mostly along the eastern and southern parts of the state, basically where the major metro areas are. From La Crosse to Milwaukee and from the IL border to Green Bay. Although Green Bay is getting smarter about their ordinances.

I do wish that registrants not on supervision would try to let go of their fear and attempt to do something for their fellow registrants. I can't wait until my husband is off supervision, then I can start being more vocal...

I get it, WIS. I wish I had the money to sue. Or the guts to flaunt the laws by moving into a community that bans me to make them enforce the laws.

I rarely have seen these local ordinance enforced.

But like you said it takes money and time and gonads.

My first thought is why are not charges brought against the man who set fire to this house? He was arrested but not charged yet. I will be watching this case. I will let you know when this coward gets charged.

It is unreal that this house was set on fire in December and again in February. What is so unreal is the lack of criminal charges brought against him. What is so unreal is the lack of people crying injustice in this community. I am so appalled at the lack of humanity that we would allow this to happen.

My faith in humanity and society is gone. Sometimes i care and sometimes i dont. I have been on both sides of the fence for many issues but there comes a point where i say or ask why?

All i can say is this is wrong.

What I find so interesting is the ladies comment at the end of the article:

"Amy Bliss, who also lives in the Gaston Circle area, said she is worried about the safety of children who live nearby. Bliss said she also thinks a sex offender moving into the neighborhood will devalue her property.

"I feel that the state is somewhat taking my property by trying to put this person in my neighborhood," Bliss said"

Once a lot of residency restrictions are found to be unconstitutional I think the devaluing of houses since sex offenders live in the neighborhood would make it more likely people will want to make the registry private or police only. If people won't listen to logic and research they will listen to their biggest investment getting devalued. This process will take a long time to come to fruition but I can see a positive end result. Just have to get rid of NIMBY!

Wow.. those people in this video are just freaking out! My son's a sex offender and he's no harm to anyone. In fact most people would be a sex offender because everyone has done something..

He has been arraigned.... he has a status Conference in April... this will take a long time in the court system... probably close to a year. If he has an attorney, it will be months and months before this is concluded.... Which in reality is good for the defendant, from what I learned from the experiences I have now had with the system.
