Has he already been adjudicated? Sentenced? How did they get the chat log? Isn't that part of the evidence in the case? if he has not been sentenced and the evidence is out there for all to see I would think that would be grounds to dismiss the case?

Advocate. Yes, he was already sentenced and has been out for a few years now. The chat log was posted online by the group that organized the sting. Perverted Justice, they post all the chat logs online. And they post the phone calls he made to the decoy girl, so they use those too! One is over 10 minutes.

He was chatting with the decoy for over a month, so these people making fun of him have a lot of stuff to use. He did say some crazy stuff, like marrying her but it wasn't real... and this is none of their business. I mean, why do they have to mock a man as he cries? We have tried to find legal help but can't...

I am confused though. This perverted justice thing. Are they cops? All those transcripts would have to be evidence. I do not understand how they could be posted on the internet. Evidence is not public record. Weird and awful

Perverted Justice is just a bunch of sorry cowards who hide behind computers and make life miserable for lonely guys like this fellow. They are civilians, but I think NBCs "To Catch a Predator" with Chris Hansen hired them to help entrap some of these guys for several taped episodes for the show.

Advocate, no they are not cops. But they give all the evidence to the cops and I guess they somehow are able to post it online. Maybe because they are not cops themselves it's legal for them to post it? Idk, we have been trying to find legal help, but it doesn't seem like we can find any lawyer that will work with this, at least not one we can afford. Their website has like over 100 guys and it shows their entire chat logs, audio of the phone calls, and even follows up with the convictions.

You would think after my uncle did his time people would leave him alone! But they make fun of him just having a photo all over YouTube? It's so unfair, how long does he have to suffer? And in Maine they show where you work too on the RSO site.

People are very cruel! Has the harassment spilled out into "the real world" or is it just online? My husbands case was highly publicised and there are several things online about him. I'm told there are twitter pages, facebook pages etc etc. I just don't look, I don't need to know. His solicitor advised us just to take no notice. A friend told me about all the nastiness a neighbour was putting online including a very strong opinion about me. It was disgusting but has he ever said anything to me? Nope. Never. He is all high and mighty hidden behind a computer but not so intimidating in the street. He doesn't even look my way anymore.

SallyBlue, so far most of it has been online, but people have sent him prank stuff in the mail, like pizza coupons and bracelets (I guess he talked a lot about pizza with the decoy and brought a bracelet to the sting). And they have called his work. Fortunately they know him well at his work and they haven't fired him. But if he tried to work elsewhere it would probably be impossible. I am hesitant to say but he has to depend on a PO Box because his address mail does get too much stuff from those people.

It's online but everywhere on YouTube. It's too hard to ignore (for me and most of the family at least), if you look at any of the videos they are so mocking. And the main person who runs that messed up website devoted to making fun of him lives in Canada, so that has made it difficult to do anything too a lawyer told us. Does anyone know what we can do to get legal help?

I doubt if there is anything that can be done. Most of the things they are posting are public knowledge or at least a matter of public record.

One thing you can watch for is if they somehow use the registry to harass him. That is strictly against the law, but would anyone want to enforce it? I doubt it.

And I have no idea what you can do with this character from Canada.

The only thing you can do is to ignore it and not go places where they have all that nonsense. Maybe someone else here can give you some ideas, but this is all I can think of right now.

I am not sure about that but the transcripts that were used for evidence should not be public record - I will say though I am not sure I would keep posting the links to the sites all over - that just perpetuates the harassment in a way? This is a public and searchable website so all those posts are searchable ... Just a thought

You know this just an idea - there is a website that an RSO set up to ridicule lawyers and probation officers etc. He made it like a Registry to mock them. The officers actually took the RSO to court and he won! A judge said it was free speech. Is he or is anyone in your family strong enough to do the same thing? Turn it back on those guys! Make fun of them! Be careful not to do anything illegal but turn about is fair play!

If it causes great concern you can, or get someone you trust, to contact hosts of the sites claiming abuse and harassment. A friend of mine done that for me but it was on the grounds of slander. Most of the "official" news story was in fact exaggerated and some even fabricated. The stories were removed from the official sites but it's still on the cached pages and social networking sites. fortunately with the internet nothing truly disappears. I might be worth a shot. A nominated person may be better as some responses can be a bit unsavoury, might be best for you not to read them.

Advocate, do you know where I can find a lawyer that does that? Or the one you're talking about?

Sorry, I only posted the links because it looked like this was a safe place. Reading the other posts I see that you all understand what society puts RSOs through, and the hurt my family is going through. Just seemed like this was an acceptable nonjudgmental place.

It is a safe place as far as the people but anyone can search and find the posts from any search engine What about a lawyer? I think I forgot my post! LOL.
