There may be one or two states that follow Florida's protocol, but all the other states do not place the visiting registrant---and leave him there---once they leave the state.

Each State is different and some counties/cities have their own rules.
For example ANY RSO visiting Las Vegas MUST register within 24 hours of arriving AND give a DNA sample.
In Virginia it's on the 14th day as a visitor you MUST register, this is not including as a student, as a temporary worker or as a volunteer.
Ignorance of the law is not a defense even as an out-of-state visitor.
Any RSO who travels to another State should find the RSOL affiliate or active advocate for the State they plan on visiting an inquire ahead of time.
In many states there are restrictions that you can not attend, State Fairs, Carnivals, Amusement Parks, Water Parks, Public Pools, City Parks, State Parks, National Parks, Zoos, Beaches/Lakes, Movie Theaters (yes, I said movie theaters), Museums, Arcades, Toy Stores and Toy Departments, Gyms and Fitness Centers, Bowling Alleys, Ski Resorts, Golf Courses and the list goes on. As a visiting RSO you could be required to abide by the laws of that State and even City.
And in many States as a visitor even when you leave to go home you remain on their public registry forever.
As I said, there may be a few others states that follow Florida's procedure, but I did not know of any.
Does anyone know of any other states that do this? I have not been able to find any information regarding this, but most of the states I am aware do not do this.
I understand that each state has their own statutes which determine the rules for visiting registrants and I am aware that some cities do also.
@Mary, you said, " And in many States as a visitor even when you leave to go home you remain on their public registry forever."
Do you have a list of those states or can you point me where I can find one?
BTW, Mary, welcome to the board.

One of the columns has information regarding visiting registrants, but it does not address if the registrant remains on the registry after he or she leaves the state. Also included in the information is the state statute, which is relevant to a registrant entering the state.
This is a good resource to have. You will have to zoom in quite a bit to read it----

I do not retain a 50 state list so I can not give you a list of States that do and don't, perhaps RSOL National could work on that kind of project.
Keeping up with VA is a full-time job for me.
As for the 50 State link from CARSOL I can tell you there ARE errors in the VA section, so there could be many other errors too I doubt just VA is wrong.
As I suggested earlier an RSO looking to travel to any other State other than their own should make the effort to reach out to an advocate/affiliate in that State if they are truly concerned/interested. CYA.
Thanks for the welcome, I'm not a big poster (also not a "hugger") so you won't hear from me much but when I see misinformation that could result in someone inadvertently committing a felony or in another post making excuses for someone who is obviously in dire need of SO treatment I will speak up.
I understand the goal of this group and I support it 100% but I'm more about advocacy and helping those RSO's who are looking for info. We all play an important part in the RSO community.
Take care!
The statutes for the states I checked do not mention if the person will be take off the registry once he leaves the state. It does not even address the issue.
I think Mary is correct. To be safe for each state, the prudent thing to do would be to notify that particular state. I have noticed that each state---and some counties---have a contact address of the administrator of the registry. Contacting the administrator might shed some light on the problem.
Yes, it would be nice to have a list of the states that follow Florida's procedure and leave visiting registrants on the registry forever.

And Mary, anyone who was defending Galen certainly doesn't condone his actions. I think they were somehow saying that if he wasn't on probation, what he did wouldn't have been against the law. Actually, I'm not so sure about this. Some of his texts were VERY close to being sexual in nature.....I'm paraphrasing "aren't you the best looking kid I know!" There is a sexual connotation in that.
The bottom line is Galen conned us all. Even if it is a technical violation, it is so clearly a moral violation. When you put on the uniform of being an advocate, there is an implicit understanding that you are dedicated to never re-offending again because to do so would not only to betray the trust of someone vulnerable but to also betray the trust of the group you are looking to help. Galen led a double life. He put on the mask of a reformer while doing everything he could to rob us of any progress we might have made without him. When Galen told Josh, according to the article, that he would sacrifice our cause to save his own skin, I lost any sympathy I might have had for him.
