Making a complaint is easy. Find out what kind of professional this person is. Google the name of your state and licensing board for ________. There should be a form to fill out and e-mailed in. This guy needs a good swift kick in the rear for what he did to you. You might even be able to do it anonymously. Depends on your state.
Sorry that happened to you. Bigotry has no place in the health professions.
It shouldn't have a negative effect on an inmate, but it does put them in a different view. But each person has to weigh the negatives and positives with being on psych meds. To me, getting the help dealing with depression than being given a black mark, but that's me.
Your son's safety is more important than anything else at the present time.
As I previously said, he has a short sentence, so he will probably be classified as minimum eligible which would drastically reduce the chance that he will be attacked or be in any violent confrontation.
If your son says, "I don't want to talk about it," when approached by other inmates, that will raise a gigantic red flag and the other inmates will know something is amiss and wonder why he at least did not tell them for what crime he was convicted. So you cannot just tell them you don't want to talk about it.
Refusing to even tell them your charges and being secretive about it will start a chain reaction and someone will surely do some investigating and find out his true charges.
I can just hear two inmates now. One says to the other, "You know that new guy that came here a few weeks ago? He never leaves his cell, and I asked him about his charges and he said he did not want to talk about it. Wonder what his problem is? I think I will get his name and have my family get on the Internet to find out his crime."
This would not happen if he just matter-of-factly gave them a cover story.
With all this in mind, your options when dealing with the fact that he is in there for a sex crime become very limited. A cover story is the lesser of two evils and is the option least likely to cause him problems.
If there were an easy way to attack this problem, I have not found it yet.
This information I am giving comes from what I experienced in prison.

I too feel like I should not spend the money that we don't have and should put it all towards his books and fines and therapys, or I should not enjoy life when he is suffering. Generally when I know he is calm and in pease when i talk with him, that is when I feel peace too. But when he is anxious, that is when I feel unease. I hope he is going to be safe and able to relax a bit once he gets use to it.
And you need to take care of yourself first, otherwise, who is able to take care of him?
This group is great. Unfortunately most of us had travel down the same path before. So lots do kind, intelligent, compassion people know exactly how you feel. We all offer our support to each other.
You can also try to go to free local S-Anon meetings. These are meetings for people who have love ones as sexaholics. You will also find lots of support there.
When I turned myself in and sat in holding under the court house I was amazed at the amount of bs stories I heard. I could tell right away they were bs but all the other returning inmates seemed to buy any and all the stories, it almost seemed like a bragging contest. I was open and said the girl lied about her age which actually seemed to go over pretty well. I don't know if it would go very well if I were in real prison but it seemed not to matter amongst that group.
