Wisconsin- Thank you for your support. The don't mention my name specifically in the book but it starts (literally the first line) off with me asking "Uncle! [My uncle's name]! How did you meet Aunt [decoy's name]" And then he responses asking me (his niece) a sexual question. That seems to be what the book is about. Making fun of the time he was part of the sting. Now I didn't read the book of course, but I did look for the parts that mention me. It gets graphic and sexual too and I don't want to read that. Do you think there is anything *I* can do even though they do not mention my name? They just say "his niece". They know I exist, but I don't think they have found my name... yet.

And he didn't even do anything. He didn't even meet an underaged girl. It was all a farce and he is a victim of a show looking for ratings. I mean, why else would they show it on national TV? Showing him crying... grrr sorry it makes me mad. They ruined his chance of ever making it in music (his dream) and he now even feels guilty about do anything they talk about (like drinking coffee). Weird I know, but they mock him about that A LOT in their videos and book.

I don't see what I can do if they don't mention my name. And the guy writing the book and running these sites are in Canada... so not sure what police can do.... How can we try to find a lawyer? I don't know any near us.

Advocate- That picture on the front of the book is from his booking photo when he was transferred from state to federal custody (he spent part of his sentence in federal prison). Would that be the same as his RSO registry photo? If so, that might be some legal aspect we could use...

Ugh, the person is in Canada, that makes it harder to do anything about the harassment other than harassing Amazon to remove the book from their site and things like that... because they are out of country it makes it harder to prosecute someone that doesn't live here.

Besides it does give Canadians a bad name too... this is the kind of people they breed up there? and I thought those canadians were nice and gave us Seinfeld...

There is something else you can do to off set this as well... Come out about it all... Or as the very least when asked about it by someone, friend or stranger, you present your version of the story well, almost clinical or legally. Definitely rehearsed. It sounds like you are worried about people finding out and shunning you in return. But people only do that when they lack information and have nothing to go on. When I explain my husband's crime, which I have been asked to do now a few times, I have a story of sorts that I tell. I explain that he didn't do what he was accused of but because a number of factors, such as his naivete with the legal system, the manner in which the investigation was conducted and the arrest made, there were no recordings of interviews because it was before that laws was put in to effect. But that due to all of that, he made it literally impossible to make a good defense for him. So he had to opt for the plea. He has successfully completed treatment and is on the downhill side of his supervision looking to be discharged completely in 2018. I never get a lot of questions, I don't get a lot of speculation and I usually never hear about it again. And I encourage questions when I explain it all.

But if you're worried about people finding out and the retaliation from that then it is best to get out ahead of it and let them hear it from you vs some other outlet.

The way I found attorneys was looking them up online and then calling them up and interviewing them. Anyone within about 200 miles was my limit. Then I prepared my 'story' to tell them about the situation I was looking for assistance for. And then a series of questions I had about it all, which changed from phone call to phone call sometimes because I learned along the way the things I wanted to know about.

Does your uncle have people picketing outside his door? does he get followed around town when he is out and about? does he have his property vandalized or defaced with derogatory things written? Those are all crimes and misdemeanors, if this is happening to him he need to report every incident. Yeah I know a hassle, but it will show a pattern of abuse by one or many people to one person. But if no one says anything then nothing will get done. In order for anything legal to get done harm has to be proven.

Wisconsin- As far as I know they can't find his trailer because there is no street view on Google Maps (good part about being in a real rural area), but they did a blog about it from what I saw. To get an idea of what they are doing to him, look at this. I can't even describe it with words. Just has to be seen. I feel that this is a safe place...

I ive in a small town too and I do the same Wisconsin. I also let the accuser and my inlaw's personalities work against them. I can't tell you how mqny have come to me and said "you're so right, they're wacked"

You know - just a thought. This harassment is already happening. Maybe the best defense is to acknowledge it and embrace it. In other words find ways to use it to yours and his advantage. First of all I really do think he is entitled to royalties from the book (his picture is on the front after all) - although I highly doubt that anyone other than his weirdo cronies are going to read it .....

He also needs to document and keep copies of everything they do or say about him and the incident. He would make a perfect candidate as an advocate for the danger and other burdens placed on sex offenders. Make a FB using no real name except for some like "Advocate for Insert Name" - or advocate for safety of sex offenders etc. then expose what they do. What is good for the goose .... But you will have to have a strong resolve NOT to get involved in any debates with them - if they are abusive on FB report them and then block them. Do not be an advocate for sex offenders in general (you will not get any support) but be an advocate to stop the harassment - appeal to folks humanity side ....

Anyone else have any ideas how he can use this harassment to his advantage?

BTW - this is a safe place ... however ... it is public so everything can be searched using Google. So if one of the wackos searches for the links for instance they will see the post. They could try to become members but we and the administrators are pretty good at spotting them

Advocate- While the harassment is pretty mocking, do you really think he could get royalties somehow? It does explicitly use his name, and his picture obviously. I mean, he is really hurting on money. He can barely afford coffee, he brews it super weak just to make it last even. I would feel weird telling him to think about that, but in my mind it might be worth bringing up. How could I do that?

I think he should contact Amazon - tell Amazon this picture and name was used without his permission and that he wants it pulled or benefits from the sales. That would be my first move - they are now playing with fire in my opinion

In other words they cannot have it both ways - if they want to say he is a public figure then as such he has rights to his story and image ...

I will mention it to him the next time we have dinner. We were going to have mac and cheese tomorrow, that always puts him in a good mood. I will bring it up then.

Honestly it seems crazy though. I think he would prefer to make the people stop... I will try to do that with Amazon first though. Why are people so mocking? And how do they have so much time to devote to him???

Could you copywrite anything they use, expressions that are specific etc?

Faery- He actually filed a copywrite suit against one of them because they have a video of him singing. He sang to the (decoy) girl over the phone so now they have a recording of him singing. He tried to claim copywriter to it but the judge rejected it :( He's a really good singer too. He would have had a career in music if they didn't entrap him.

I agree he would probably want people to stop but when you cannot beat them join them ...

Also I think you mentioned at one time that they were sending things to him in the mail? He might want to take a look at the laws about that - I am pretty sure that there are laws about using the US mail for harassment etc ....
