I lived in the country. When my PO and her boss visited for the first time I warned them to watch out for the poisonous snakes. From then on they never got out of the car and just rolled down the window. :)

In Pa in our County Montgomery right outside of Philly the wear plain clothes . My sons comes once a week to house. Sometimes he calls first , about 50-50 on the calls . we treat him with respect he treats back mostly the same. I wonder if we get good treatment because I live in a nice neighborhood and I'm a lot older that PO and I'm a business and sales person. . The first PO he had I talked career advice a little with.

Your PO can search at any time, but there are limitations.

The probationer has to be the one there to consent. For me, if I'm not home and my PO shows up my wife does not have to let them search. Only I have to.

Also - if the probationer lives in a house with other people, they can only go through his private area (read: bedroom) and communal living areas where he may spend time.

My PO has visited 5 times in 2 years. I answered the door twice - they searched both times. My wife answered twice, neither of those times did the PO even ask to come in, just asked if I was there.

I now just don't answer the door if I'm home alone. Last time they came they rang doorbell a couple times, left a card in the door and left.

These rules are true where I live, but they may be different in your area, the best thing to do is ask a lawyer or read up on the laws yourself.

When my husband lived in a halfway house, the POs for the RSOs showed up in plain clothes, chitchatted, looked around maybe once a month and left. The POs for non-RSOs showed up with police with weapons drawn in SWAT gear and kept everyone at gunpoint until searches were done.

Regarding POs and LE in general-----

It is easy being a hammer when everyone else is a nail.

wait so if im not home then my po cant searched my room or take my stuff ? i live in wv , and when they came in and searched my room and took my computer and a few hard drives i was not even home my mom was but i was not.?

If you are on probation, the PO does not need a warrant to search your room.

I served all my time in prison and discharged the entire 20 year sentence while in prison, so I had no probation or paper time. I don't really have any experience with probation.

If your mother willingly let them in then they can, yes.

She doesn't have to, but remember if this starts happening it can lead to your PO making your life even more miserable than it is. They may even say you can't live there.

And rules may be different where you live, talk to a lawyer familiar with the laws in your area.

Something to remember that I hope everyone on here already knows: Once OFF probation or supervised release, you NEVER have to let anyone in without a warrant. Compliance officers who make checks and even sometimes come by with US Marshals often try to find a way in to someone's home. You are under no obligation to let them in once off paper. This is especially important for one's entire family to know about.

If you are off paper you simply tell the police that you choose to follow your rights as laid out in the constitution. If they wish to search your house they need a warrant.
