faeryedark, it's that way for parents too. some of the looks her brother and i got in court the day of her sentencing was gut churning. and when the ADA actually turned in our direction??? it was she was looking 'thru/at' slime.
Freetobreathe, and others who bash the cops on here.....Did you ever think that maybe they become defensive because they sense you becoming defensive?
If you can't tell by my name, I was in the Coast Guard and one of the CG's main jobs was LE, and not just drugs, I have done almost everything from simple safety boardings to suicides and murder. It was those simple boardings that most often turned something up, most people welcomed the safety inspection, a piece of mind for them,(there was no choice either way, if we wanted to do an inspection, we did it under Federal law). when the people on the boat got defensive about a safety inspection, that's when our 'radar' beeped and we became very suspicious, they were then potential "bad guys"..Most of the time it was people with that "How dare you inconvenience me" attitude...(I'd rather piss you off, than have to pull you dead children out of the water, an experience I hope none of you ever has)..But some time it wasn't, and sometimes guns were pulled on some very unpleasant people..My dad is a retired Highway Patrolman, Westdenali is a cop, a simple broken tail light can become a fight for your life............All you cop haters, think about that.
I've had many interactions with LE over the years as an RSO, but only had one issue with one young one who wanted to come in my house and look around and I told him where to go, and that was the only time..
I've been stopped for speeding 5 or 6 times in the last 10 or so years, but only got 1 ticket, he had me at 30 over, (and he was right) but only wrote me for 9 over. Had he wrote me for what he could, my license would have been suspended for 45 days...He ran my DL and knew I'm an RSO, BUT, I made him laugh..Yeah, it;s that simple. You know,.,,"Do unto others"?..
A few years ago there was a cell phone video posted on here where a person went in to register..I didn't comment on it because, as I saw it, the cop was being professional, even after the person registering became an ass, the cop, a female, stayed mellow, and was even a bit amused at this person who was behaving like a 15 year old...You might still be able to find it on here.
I had to register last week. I went in, the cop that does was out.(small town). Dispatch called him and he said he'd be out for several hours, and asked if I had any changes, I didn't, he said when he got to his office, he would print every thing up and leave at the front for me to sign later. Why? 'Cause I'm not a 'dick'.I promise you he doesn't do that for everyone....
Whose life? It seems to me that the only people getting raped and sexually assaulted at a traffic stop are single women after being pulled over. I also have not seen too many reports or instances of police being beaten up and kicked while they are down on the ground----sometimes even when handcuffed. Or worse yet, killed.
I know some women that are actually fearful of being stopped by the police and they make sure they drive to a well lit area before pulling over. There have been several sexual assaults by cops at traffic stops in the news lately. Is this some of the kindness and professionalism that you are referring to?
And these are not isolated cases, either. There is a troubling pattern of misbehavior of the police against citizens that needs to be addressed in this country.
Westy and I have had this talk, and I agreed that the patrolman, the cop on the beat is not usually the problem; the detectives are the low lifes. But even the cop on the beat are human beings and giving some human beings the power that comes with a gun and a badge is sometimes a prescription for disaster for the citizen.
BTW, Coastie, don't get too feisty. After you leave the registration office, the cops still think you are scum like the rest of us. Truth be told, they are probably laughing that you still think you were ever "one of them."
I believe in dealing with reality here.

Of course you didn't bash cops. Reality is reality and if you have had some bad dealings with law enforcement even when you tried to be civil, then that is just the way it is.
The patrolman on the beat---NOT detectives---are like inmates, sex offenders, and everyone else. They are people, human beings; some are decent, some are trash. They only problem is that they have more power than normal folk and sometimes they get a little carried away with that power bestowed upon them.
I would suspect the cop behind the desk might be more difficult to deal with as they probably consider themselves up a little higher in the hierarchy of law enforcement organization.
Frankly, I never allowed them to bother me. I just ignored their rudeness.

i know that there are some really good, honest and compassionate cops out there. but i have also run into the other ones too. when that happens you begin to see them in the same shade of color. it's a very sad state of affairs but it is what happens.
i was taught to always trust cops and to be polite and for most all of my life i have done so. but in the past 15 to 20yrs i have seen a big change in them and it 'has' effected how i might deal with them.
actually my whole attitude over dealing with people has undergone a major change. i try hard to be polite with everyone but now when polite doesn't work i give back the exact attitude i am subjected to.
i use to drive big truck over the road so i dealt with a lot of shippers and receivers and DOT officials over the years. if your not polite to them they can make the life of a trucker miserable.
BUT..... there's been more than a few times when i have asked them, "are you always a dickhead? or do you reserve it just for female truckers. i have asked a few troopers basically the same question a time or three! LOL
We have a very high murder rate here but the local police pride themselves in not shooting people. I'd say they found ways to defuse situations safely and I commend them for that. There are very few cases that the don't solve. In the off season the population is around 30,000 but in the summer it soars to 250,000!
When times are tough in the country the police are the face of the government. Unfortunately some wrongly take out their frustrations on them yet they are the first to be called for help when there's a problem.
We aren't Afghanistan or Iraq and do not need tanks and MRAP's to police. That's what we have the National Guard for.
So what is that? Come on really? We are not in the war zone. Ohh wait a minute...we are! We are at war with all of you! We deal with shit that most people would never deal with even if they got paid for it! It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out LE suffer from chronic stress. The two major reasons why are that we are exposed to doom and gloom every day. We continually see human misery. Secondly stress numbs peoples sensitivity. We have to stop feeling or we wont survive.
I could go on and on. I could tell tell about my coworkers who committed suicide. I could tell you the time i put my gun to my head. I could tell you how i self medicate just to be numb. I am not angry. I am sick and tired. No one appreciates us. We are called names.....
You know what? Enough of my pity party. I am going to fight it! You see i am falling into not giving a shit again.
It took my situation with my SIL to take of my blinders. When i looked in his mom's eyes and saw the pain and anguish it was then i knew i had to do something.
As for Freetobreath....you are absolutely right! Cops need to ligten up. Just dont know howto do it.
As for faeryedark...yes we need more sensitivity training. We train for everything under the moon but dealing with families of those accused of crimes. I will bring this upto my training section.
So thanks for listening to me. Like i said i appreciate all of you. Sometimes i just dont want to hear the brutal truth.
Whose reality? To my knowledge the cops have no idea I "Used to be one of them", maybe you need to do some research on the Coast Guards missions, that was only one part of it. and I really don't give a shit what they think about me behind my back, as long as they treat me with respect to my face, and if it bothers you what others think?????? Get over it, my hell.
"BTW Coastie, don't get too feisty". Don't patronize me or try to 'Pat me on the head' like a child and not expect a reaction.
You need to stop listening to Al Sharpton and msnbc. Of course you will hear stories about women being assaulted during a traffic stop because(DUH) only cops can make a traffic stop, but, percentage wise, how does it equal sexual assault against single women on dates, in college, at clubs, or just plain old rape? Come on, you state these things so back it up.
Do you know how many commercials I've seen where people are warned to make sure to stop in a well lit place? Guess what??? It's LE putting those ads on the air.
"I have not seen too many reports of cops being beaten or kicked while on the ground"...REALLY??? They just buried the second New York cop that was EXECUTED while sitting in their patrol car today.
Here is another recent and well known one, the 'Gentle Giant' Michael Brown ATTACKED and tried to take the cops gun.. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but all the evidence, depositions and testamonies have all been released and it was CLEAR Brown assaulted the cop. I don't have the time to do a comparison between the amount of assaults on cops vs the cops assaulting civilians, but you seem to have more time than I do, so why don't you do it if you want to stand by your last post? Hmmmm?
BTW, your last post just proves what I said earlier, you got very defensive and I didn't even mention you in my post...
Your hatred has blurred reality for you. I live in reality because, for better or worse, this is the life I've been dealt and I'm going to make the best of it I can..
Now,m I'll tell you what really pisses me off. Every post i put up is to be positive, don't stop looking to make your life better by not giving up, but every time I do, you have to come on and be a 'Debbie Downer'.
I really feel sorry for you man, and I mean that.
I'm done on this subject.
I will not delete the last post but I am watching this thread. We are all civil and have our own opinions but when it becomes personal I will not tolerate it.
Coastie if you have a grievance whit Rew or any of us TAKE IT OFFLINE! Or you will be deleted!!!
This is a warning...!!
