I can understand the pain they must have is tremendous and life altering but I agree they should be going after the perpetrators of the porn and not the viewers. But they always seem to do that – go after the easy target. I wonder if they are also going to get restitution from the cops that keep those photos circulating. Why not go after the peer-to-peer networks that allow the photos to be traded in their software – they could do something to stop it but the cops have never gone after the owners of the peer-to-peers where most of this stuff is traded.
This also perpetuates the eternal victim syndrome. I have PTSD from the military and prison. Do I let it run my life? NO!!!!
I only gave a link because I thought someone might be interested.
You are certainly correct when you said this perpetuates the eternal victime syndrome. Some of these people need to learn to be survivors instead of victims. Of course, playing the victim card forever evokes more sympathy and apparently has more financial benefits.

Let's say I was raped. If my rapist happened to tape my rape, and then post it to the internet, I honestly don't see how I'd be retraumatized every time somebody viewed it. Now, if my name were attached to it and the video negatively affected my reputation or career or family life then, yes, I'd say there was extra trauma. But if people are anonymously watching a video, I just don't see how there is additional trauma above and beyond what was caused by the rape itself. If the person is making a profit from it, then I do think some additional charges would be warranted against them, but I don't think I'd be entitled to financial compensation. If anything, the profits gained should be taken and used for some sort of community good.
And, again, many of the people downloading these images do so for free. I'm not sure why they'd be responsible for compensating the victims even if the victims do legally deserve restitution, because they didn't pay for the material.
There is nothing confusing about it. It's all about the money. Think about those who made a fortune out of the tragedy of their children and you will understand. Start with John Walsh and Maureen Kanka and go from there.
No, you ARE confused and don't quite understand how victims of child porn can be victimized over and over again just because some total stranger looks at their images or videos. Why? Because you have what a lot of American does not have---a voice of reason and common sense. Nobody with any semblance of common sense or fairness can make the argument that this paper is trying to convey.
We all know the real reason that they want full restitution for child porn victims----it is just another way to extract the last pound of flesh from sex offenders, another way to dig the knife a little deeper.
Sex offenders have no real lobbying power and are one of the least liked people on this planet, so they can do pretty much what they please without any criticism from the general public. It doesn't really matter if the laws are just or just plain stupid.
Yeah, this is just another way to get back at sex offenders. The tragic thing, to me, is the collateral damage that is done to the families of sex offenders, especially the children who do not understand this entire mess.

It is simply about money, AND I don't blame the girl, what happened should never have happened....
My guess is that these girls didn't think this up on their own...It was the SCUMBAG Lawyer who is probably getting 80% of the money....
Everything about SO's is about money or votes...
I would like to know how the lawyer KNEW about the Vicki series! LOL I had never heard of it before and I would imagine most people that were never involved in any porn wouldn’t know about it! The restitution should come from her father – period! You are right – even if someone had that series in their collection most would not even know it. Also it would have to be determined that a person DID indeed have that file or files. Yeah, this lawyer is trying to make a name for him/or her self.
