We found out the hard way that Florida puts vacationing sex offenders on their public registry forever, saying a 'temporary residen' is a lifelong registrant. The FDLE will tell you proudly they have 10,000 out of 65,000 registrants who are NOT in the state, therefore not legally required to update their registration BUT displayed on the national sites as a Florida sex offender. I wonder if higher registry numbers bring in more tax dollars for the FDLE.....they said not........yeah, right

I live in Florida.... Miami to be exact please please PLEASE avoid this state.... I was thinking about moving to one of the Carolinas do anybody has any info

You had better avoid North Carolina for sure. In my work, I have offenders who live all across the United States and North Carolina has some very restrictive laws for sex offenders.

South Carolina is not quite as bad as North Carolina, but it is still bad.

Stay out of the Bible Belt and the deep southern states at all costs. Forget Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama. Those places are like Kryptonite is to Superman

Some of the plains states are not good either. Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, or Minnesota have all passed some very restrictive laws for sex offenders.

Pennsylvania and a couple of the states in the Northeastern part of the country are better than any Bible Belt state.

Washington and Oregon are not bad, nor is Nebraska.

I know a guy well who lives in South Carolina. I will give you a link to his web site. You can go there and ask him about South Caroline. Just tell him that REW sent you. He knows me well.

Stay away from the 'bible belt ' Arkansas,Missouri for sure....

South Dakota is not all that bad on SO's. This stated is fair with their laws on this subject. You can live where you want as long as it's not close to school or park, Etc. They do home checks in some cities and towns but most law-enforcement people are very respectful. Most companies will take you in and give you a chance but there is always the uneducated people that may give a SO a hard time but it will pass.

It seems to me that many states are getting harder on their sex laws to the point where it could be next to impossible to live and make a living for yourself as a SO. I made a bad mistake that I must live with for the rest of my life and I own it, not proud of what I did. I can say this everybody has dirt (or in their family) I don't care who you are or where you come from. I know people that have never been caught but they feel free to judge others and they do it with no mercy. Life is hard but have faith in God and be humble, that is the best advice my wife gave me when I was locked up. We are still together to this day and she has forgiven me for what I did in my past before we met. So where ever you move to there will be challenges and some laws will change in time for better or worse. The best way I found to be free is to own it and be honest if anyone asks.

My boyfriend is a registered sex offender living in indiana. Indiana does not have levels for sex offenders. If the victim of their offense is under the age of 12 they register every 3 months. Over the age of 12 they register once a year. And cannot live within 100 feet of parks and schools. As for jobs I'd suggest any third shift that has a skeleton crew. They tend to be less snoopy.

Kentucky is better than Tennessee or Missouri. I read a lot and I don’t see too many problems coming out of Kentucky, at least in comparison to the other Bible Belt states.

My husband is a registered sex offender I know this can be very difficult it has been and is going to continue to be difficult for us. But as a licensed realtor what I can tell you is apartment complexes are going to be very difficult and relatively close minded if you buy a property you have a few more options depending on his conviction and the laws of your state as to what the notification is regarding Neighbors. And also it might be helpful to look for a private owner to rent from in many cases with a letter of explanation they might be willing to work with you and your family. But every state has different laws with regard to the tier registration requirement whether they're tier-1 tier-2 or tier-3. Looking to the laws of your state and see what the notification requirements are and go from there. I know avoiding Florida Texas and Hawaii it's going to be in your best interest they have some of the strictest sex offender laws and make it very difficult not to mention uncomfortable to live anywhere.
