Sure, you can take diphenhydramine (Benadry) and Melatonin together. The LD50 for Benadryl (the dosage that will be lethal to 50% of the people) is quite high, so a person would have to take at least 100 tablets all at once to overdose. In other words, it is very safe.
It is almost impossible to overdose on Melatonin. In fact, I have never heard of that happening even when laboratory rats are given massive doses.
In short, both are safe and can be taken together.
Bambo,
You are absolutely right. You can build up a resistance to the Benadryl. In medical terms, it is called a tolerance, which is defined as needing more of the drug to receive the same results.
You can build up a tolerance to any substance. That is why experienced drinkers and alcoholics can drink someone like me under the table---they have built up a tolerance and I have not.
But the tolerance with Bendadryl is not a problem. You just have to take a larger dose.
The only major adverse side effect with Benadryl is sedation (of course), dryness of the mouth, and urinary retention. When you first begin taking it, you might notice that when you urinate it is a little more difficult to get started, much like you experience when you have a UTI (urinary tract infection.) But none of these side effects are dangerous or anything to worry about.
BTW, all your OTC sleep aids such as Sominex, etc., use Benadryl as its main ingredient, but it is much cheaper to just buy the Benadry as I suggested.
Such,
If you are having a panic attack the treatment is usually Ativan, Xanax, or Klonopin but they require a prescription. Xanax probably works best and it comes in a generic---alprazolam.
To prevent panic attacks, they use one of the modern SSRI anti-depressants such as Celexa, Zoloft, or Lexapro. Sometimes Prozac.
I don't know of any natural treatments that are effective in a panic attack.
