Go to Wal Mart or any pharmacy and buy some diphenhydramine tablets. That, BTW, is the generic name for Benadryl. The OTC form comes in 25 mg tablets. Buy a small pak of 16 or 24 at first. Take one 30 minutes before bedtime. If that does not work as well as you would like, try two (50mg) at bedtime. Fifty milligrams usually works well for most people. One of the problems with higher doses is that diphenhydramine tends to stay in the body for a longer time and sometimes you might have a minor hangover the next day, but it is usually nothing you cannot get through. You might have to adjust the dosage to your body chemistry. Make sure that you do not try to take this during the day as it does cause sedation.
The package you buy might not have "diphenhydramine" written so it is easy to spot. Ask the pharmacist or his aid for help in buying the right drug. Just get the plain diphenhydramine. Do not get some cough or cold combination that contains diphenhydramine, just straight plain diphenhydramine. It is very cheap and if it works well, you can buy 100 tablets for four dollars.
If you are up to 3 tablets of the 25mg diphenhydramine and still cannot sleep, go to the pharmacy of your choice and buy some Melatonin tablets. It works well in most cases also. Just use the dosage on the side of the bottle.
I have a degree in pharmacology, so I know these meds usually work.
Just trying to save you ladies some money, as there is no need going to the doctor and paying for an office visit and possibly an expensive prescription until you try the diphenhydramine and Melatonin first.
