i got this off a website and it DOES mention that this plan might help some people lose weight...but im posting it because 1000 cals would be amazing for some of us to get up to! so here are sone reasons y 1000 cals might not be such a bad idea:
The 1000 Challenge
Benefits of raising daily calories to 1000 calories a day:
- your metabolism will be much faster and you'll lose more weight. When you eat too little you burn muscle, and the more muscle you have the faster your metabolism. Also the body slows the metabolism so that it needs less calories to carry out normal functions - breathing, movement, making cells etc.
- you'll be less likely to binge. When restricting or when your weight is lower than it is supposed to, your body sets up cravings for fatty sugary foods.
- you'll burn much less muscle for energy. When restricting or fasting, as much as 90% of weightloss is from muscle. This muscle can include heart muscle (which can cause heart failure) and other important muscles (i was once in contact with a bulimic who was incontinent because the muscle that held in her urine had been burnt for fuel).
- You'll be generally more healthy - less likely to have vitamin deficiencies and so on.
- you'll have way more energy.
- you'll appear more 'normal' to loved ones, and it will prevent them from worrying so much.
The best way to get to 1000cals (or a higher number if you like) is to add 100cals to your daily intake every week. You can go straight to 1000cals, but if you do you might gain a lot of water weight. Remember, it's very unlikely you'll gain any actual weight doing this - any weight-gain will be just water.
Some people struggle to get to 1000cals because they don't know what to eat, as they usually eat such low-cal food, so here's some suggestions:
-carbs (they're not THAT evil - remember that asians use white rice as a staple in their diet, and they remain slim) - wholegrain bread, wholewheat pasta, potatoes, sweet potatoes, brown rice.
-protein - meats, beans, tofu, rolled oats, dairy products, eggs, soy products, nuts and lentils.
-fats - i know they are really REALLY scary, but some are actually good for you! olive oil is okay, as is canola oil.
- some people have the control to eat small quantities of junkfood and therefore could make up their cals with a small amount (bear in mind it's much healthier to eat 1000cals of chocolate a day than it is to eat 400cals of veg!!)
If you gain on the challenge (this is possible if you are small or have severe metabolic damage) and you have been on the challenge and building up calories correctly (adding 100 per week) then try either of these alternative plans:
-do a variation of the 2-4-6-8 which is 6-8-10-12, this will stir the metabolism into action. Any other plan which fluctuates the amount of calories will work too, as long as the average daily calories are around 1000.
-drop your calories to 900 or 800cals. If you do this a higher proportion of your calories has to be from protein and it's a good idea to try and build muscle too, and this will help avoid muscle wastage when you do start to lose weight.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
im so friggen ass tired with people attacking my posts without asking wtf i put it there for........so let me educate u on y
1) for ALOT of us on here, including myself........1000 cals a daY is a fucking feat in itself! i would have a VERY hard time getting to that number each day! so sitting there telling me that 1000 cals a day is not a good idea....OK THANKS ILL CONTINUE ON BELOW 1000.....jerks
2) for those of u who are in a healthier place no where did i say that u should lower to 1000 (i did not write this article....i read it and thought i should share it to perhaps motivate some people to up their cals even a little bit and get them closer to a healthier level)
3) gee 1000 cals a day not a healthy diet? gee didnt think of that! ha ....i know this...im not dense.....but 1000 cals a day is more doable for someone who is on say a 100 cal or 600 cal diet......and i think expecting 1500 cals out of someone right off is like asking for their god damn left leg when they have been on such low cals for so long.......at that point i would say fuck it,,,if 1000 isnt good enough then i guess im not gonna even get to that point cuz then ill have to eat more and im still not good enough to be given any recognintion for doing better...and according to most of u who responded 1000 cals a day just isnt acceptable......
so thanks......guess i wont go to 1000.......since its such a BAD idea and all........
but I didnt feel comfortable not saying 1000 still isnt enough... wait I think you called me a jerk !!! HAHA just kididng.
1000 calories would be mega hard for me to get to...and i think alot of u overlooked that right off the bat...alot of people on here are in that same boat as me at the moment...where 1000 cals would be a major improvement...
so to sit there and tell me that im thinking 1000 cals is healthy is just basically calling me a dipshit....i KNOW 1000 cals isnt healthy...but its fuck of a lot better than what im doing now! so i think 1000 cals is a damn good goal for me at the moment!
also please quit freaking out about the part where it talks about speeding up the metabolism and perhaps helping one drop a lil weight.....i think that that might help motivate people (i know i know not the best motivation) to get to that 1000....i dont think someone with an ED is gonna up their cals if the consequences were major weight gain right away (i realize that alot of us need to gain weight but thats the scariest thing)....its like telling someone to jump off a cliff with their eyes closed....r u gonna tell them that there is a net there to catch them? or r u just gonna expect them to jump off and trust that all will be well?
I do not say these things to rile/anger you, I do it because I care to see what you are advising but more taking on your own advice. That in itself is worrying.
and i posted this because if it IS true then perhaps it would encourage those of us to up our cals......some wouldnt be doing it for the right reasons im sure (but therein lies the reason y i posted it....i know that 1000 cals a day isnt gonna stimulate my metabolism and make me lose weight......i dont wanna lose more weight....but i think upon reading that (most like untrue info) alot more anorexics might consider upping their cals upwards heading toward a healthier level.........
but no, thank u for beating my efforts into the ground...i love u 2
