Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
Come Father's Day last year - no way, no how did I call him. I left in despair and he still treated me and my family horribly. Father? I don't think so. Father's wouldn't behave the way he did. He certainly didn't deserve a call from me. Of course, I didn't tell my children that. They are old enough to make their own choices. They did what they felt appropriate and rightfully so.
I actually wasted the day thinking of him though.....probably pacing and waiting for me to call him. That's how he was. It was always all about him. It didn't matter whether he called me on Mother's Day or not - HE was the father of our children - that's certainly more significant. How I stayed so long is beyond me. Sad, huh?
As to Mother's Day, if your ex or stbx is the father of your children and he sent a card or called, that at least shows a speck of respect for that fact. But you have to protect your own feelings and if NO CONTACT is what is currently working for you, keep it up. No use trying to "guilt" them into treating you differently than they have been. It just takes your precious energy away from all you have to handle right now.
*chuckles*
Prolly not.
He also sent a Happy Birthday text today and sent a gift.
I won't be acknowledging Father's Day. I will help the kids with gifts if they need it, but I won't be doing any direct communication.
In passing if I have to communicate - I probably will just add Have a Happy Fathers Day
