Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
Like awalkinlight04, I will wish my son and father and other men in my life a Happy Father's Day.
I have over the years heard people say why would I buy my husband/wife a card, HE is not my Father..he is my husband. Or wife.
What I do think is important is that you TAKE your children to pick out a card, or make one. That if they want to get a gift they help pick it out and have them or help them pay for it. I think that it is nuts that some people have kids in their late teens and twenties and they still go and get the Fathers Day gift and say it is from " the kids" and the "kids" did not have anything to do with it and are what did we get dad? The excuses, they would not know what to buy, or they are too busy or they don't have any money are all just excuses.. and guess what, when they are in their twenties and thirties and you do not get a mothers day or birthday gift or card.. guess why...? Because someone did for them and they did not get the meaning of giving.. OFF my soapbox...
I often through out the year have told a few men in my life, you are a really great dad.. They are, and I meant it, and I admire it.. I think that is important, and since all but one are divorced, they said it means a lot to them that I respect that and acknowledge it. That is the real day for a dad, an unexpected kudo!
*IF* he ACTED like a father, I might feel differently.
My point is that I won't honor the father if he is not worthy of the honor.
That being said, I will have the kids get something for their dad for dad's day. He is their dad and that is what they should do. But it's not from me. He ain't my daddy -- that's for sure -- definitely not anymore.
