Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

Just ask yourself "How does that change my life today?" Will it change your life at all? Will it matter? Really think about it. I think you will be surprised at the answer. That's what I ask myself if I think of the ex getting married again and truthfully it won't change or matter in my life at all.
It's different for everyone-especially those folks that still have to co-parent but it might not change your life as much as you think.
Sending happy thoughts your way.

My heart goes out to you TX...the only thing I can suggest is to acknowledge and verbalize what you do feel as the feelings come up. I would think its ok to feel sad, angry and disappointed...its another ending...aarrgg...as if we haven't felt that feeling enough already.
There are a few ways you can look at it. You could say to yourself...well he's her problem now...or...our story together has ended and now its time to write a my new chapter...or...I hope he has found his happiness now its my turn...stuff like that.
I wish I could be more help. Since I have not gone through that yet I can only imagine how I would feel...although its been my experience that what I imagine I would feel and what I actually feel are often different...Big hugs...Kathy
This causes me to recall a conversation I had with a female coworker several years ago. I was saying 2nd or greater marriages have less chance to survive and she was saying getting it right may take more than once. (She was on her 4th or 5th marriage as was her husband and she felt she finally got it right, they had been married around 13 years at the time of our talk). A few years later, they too were on the threshold of a divorce, she had moved out and about 6 months later her husband came down with cancer and died. She had hardly seen him over those 6 months but yet held his hand as he passed away. What causes people to act as she did? In life, she was sick of him, in death she mourned. So I guess what your husband's modus operandi is when it comes to marriage would dictate how I'd feel. I'd feel my ex was wasting her time and energy because when the chips were down, she still couldn't grasp the true meaning of love. Notwithstanding bizarre or extreme behavior, the person who discounts the marriage vows will eventually find reason to do more of the same. Those who got left for 'greener grass' stand a better chance in subsequent marriages, given they've worked through the betrayal and can trust again. There is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and if pipe dreams and fairy tales are the driving factor for this wedding then it's a matter of time their newfound joy is laid evident, the emperor has no clothes. "Good luck with that one."
My ex didn't just have a mistress; he married her while he was overseas. Yes, I was devastated when I found out and there was no reconciling what he did. I'm lucky because I've never seen her in person. My circumstances are different from yours. I have no ill will towards her. I put it right where that anger belonged and that was on him.
We are done, finished and its over. Our daughter is grown, and he now lives in the state where I was born. I think he will stay out of SC. I hope she is happy and he doesn't play games with her life like he did mine. A snake hiding in the grass is still a snake.
I asked myself a lot of questions while getting my divorce. I've found that my life hasn't changed much, I work a little longer and I seldom think about the ex. Actually when he committed bigamy it gave me the freedom to make the decisions that were right for me. That is probably why I feel differently about the other wife, new wife whatever she is.
Just work through your thoughts and feelings as they happen. Will his marriage really make a difference in your life now?
Anyway, X only knew this one for about 6 months! And the only thing that comes to MY mind is that she has NO IDEA what she has gotten herself into. I know that he would never tell her (or anyone) the real truth about why we ended up in divorce -- what man ever does admit having an affair? I can almost hear him saying, "We grew apart." Such bullshit! But a typical "explanation" for the one who strayed to use. Whatever. It doesn't matter, really. I don't wish him any ill will, but I do believe that Karma will get him at some point in time.
As for me, I've moved on and no longer have to deal with him.
- it is the whole "family" dynamic (how is that for a sick world), and having to deal with
my kids dealing with him
me dealing with the slimeball around them and at the milestone events
- but, there is nada i can do AND i do like the advice above "what would it change for me ?", no point dwelling on emotion
My ex's brother over heard and said - Everyone's a winner. LOL - I don't know about that, but I most certainly am. My life is much more peaceful and happy without having to walk on eggshells and worry if he was going to make it home in one piece.
They do deserve each other - that's for certain!
What I found humorous was my daughters all get ready at my place and wore black/gray to the ceremony at his house. :)
Honestly, I do wish them happiness!!! Everyone deserves that!
It sounds like you got through the weekend with grace, and I'm happy for you. Good for you for wishing them happiness, deserved or not! I believe that will bring good things your way, and give you a lighter heart. Well done.
So it was HIS second marriage and her...THIRD!!! Geez. You'd think they'd have had the sense to go off and get married at city hall or something. To put the kids through watching them "commit" to each other so early after their parents' marriage ended......what a couple of selfish beings.
Like KRK said, they deserve each other. I could care less if they make it, don't make it. The boys tell me the odd snippet of news but I really don't care. The ex and his new mrs. broke up two families and caused a heck of a lot of grief. I wonder if it was worth it for them, but I'll never really know...unless the DO break up eventually lol!
BTW, Just because they stay together, got married....it doesn't mean that there is some stupendously passionate and committed love bond between them! Two people messed up and had an affair and ultimately got married, in my mind, to justify all the mess they made. It's a marriage of convenience that grew out of deceit and pain. Not much to celebrate!
I believe that everyone deserves to be content (which I think comes from inside)... I think happy comes from outside. I honestly do wish this luck and happiness.... partly selfish on my part... I am hoping that now that they are married, he will calm down and she will stop seeing me as a threat!
Thanks for all the great words and advice!!!
