Shape Up or Ship Out!
Getting in shape is perhaps the most exciting and beneficial life changes you’ll ever make. There may be a number of reasons why you’ve decided to get fit. Perhaps you’ve had a doctor’s warning about a developing health condition or maybe you want to look fabulous for a college reunion, wedding or other special event. Regardless, take a moment to prepare yourself for this considerable, and commendable, undertaking.
Over the next 30 days, you can expect to:
• Formulate a fitness plan.
• Make important dietary changes.
• Become knowledgeable about your body and fitness.
• Set and achieve realistic goals.
• Feel optimistic and enthusiastic about your new lifestyle.
• Feel more energized and healthier.
On this first day, get a baseline of all your measurements. On a sheet of paper, write down your current chest, hip and waist measurements, as well as your current weight and resting heart rate. Also, test your physical skill with a modified version of the Army’s physical fitness test. Time how long it takes for you to run around your block as fast as you can. Then do as many push-ups and sit-ups as you can in 30 second intervals. Write those numbers down. At the end of 30 days, you’ll take these measurements again and see your progress. Good luck! http://www.first30days.com/getting-in-shape/tip/782

♦ Same SCALE to Measure Yourself - Remember, sometimes the scale doesn't budge, but the waistline will.

Well, I, for one, will not be running around the block, or any such thing with my MS, so this is a prime example of how we can modify, modify, modify (as Susan Powder always said). Testing endurance and creating goals can be done in other ways, and for me, it's how many minutes I can walk laps around my small kitchen, or stay on the treadmill, that sort of thing. Whatever works for motivation. Have a great week!

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
Welcome, veggiequeen!! You're doing great!! You know the drill . . . just dust yourself off, celebrate those results and keep on making progress. Remember, time spent beating yourself up is just time wasted from thinking positive thoughts about all the good you've done and working on your goals.
Great job ladies!!!!
