Weekly Weigh-In ♦ April 23-30 ♦ The Basics

With persistence, the sky's the limit.
It’s a new week, yet every moment is brand new and we can turn over that leaf anytime without waiting for a particular week, day, or hour. Right now is always the best time to start. Whether you’re just getting back to healthy lifestyle, or seeking motivation to continue the path, keep the basics in mind.
Jack LaLanne, the legendary fitness guru, was the model of health and fitness through his life of 92 years. His keys to success were basic, and great to keep in mind no matter the stage we’re at in our healthy journey; exercise, nutrition, positive thinking, good habits, grooming, a smile, good posture, helping others, relaxation and faith.
During my time in WeightWatchers, we discussed habits and used tools. Even though, that was almost 10 years ago, they stick with me. While in the official program, my weight dropped 30 pounds and I can look back anytime to see how I’ve done over the years. I’ve posted a rendition of a fitness tracker online. WW had what they called “healthy habits” which included getting 8 glasses of water daily. Any week my progress stalled, I heard the classic question “did you get your water in this week?” The small things can make such a difference!
Sometimes we get impatient and want to see immediate success in huge amounts. It helps to remember that good things are built with loving care and are worth the effort, even if it seems at too slow a rate for our liking. We want great health that will last a lifetime. It’s a good feeling to know that as we accumulate our tools and information, these are the building blocks that will serve us well, and for more than just a “flash in the pan” sort of dieting. This is a lifestyle that grows and changes according to our needs, in keeping with the better information continually becoming available. See that? We’re learning along with entire world community of health experts. Seems we’re in good company, not to mention the friends we make along the way. So that’s our motivation for this week, take the time to make those goals, and to give yourself the time and the tools needed for success.
Keep in mind these FOUR S's of weighing yourself:
♦ Same TIME of day (on the)
♦ Same DAY each week (wearing the)
♦ Same CLOTHING (and using the)
♦ Same SCALE to Measure Yourself - Remember, sometimes your scale won't budge but your waistline will.

Congratulations!! Congrats also to those newly joining us and making positive changes! Showing up is everything. Remember, in a discouraging week, we can keep in mind that healthy habits win out so keep up with the great work - it will pay off.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
Sometimes we overindulge and have a minor set back. But if we look at our overall weight loss trend, that should make us get right back on track. A good tool is a weight tracker on your smart phone. You may get ups and downs, but when you see the trend is ultimately downward, it's just so motivating to keep it up.
An opportunity has come up to take part in some research looking at health and lifestyle attitudes and intentions. The research is being carried out by researchers at the Department of Behavioural Science & Health at University College London. For this study, you need to be female and aged 18 years or older. You can access the questionnaire using the link below. The questions will relate to your diet, physical activity and general health attitudes. It should take between 20-30 minutes to complete.
Please follow the link if you are happy to complete the questionnaire: https://opinio.ucl.ac.uk/s?s=48848
Feel free to email me with any queries and many thanks in advance for your time,
