This is not weight related and do need help on the stress on the home front with my Mental ill step brother. Me, my sister and my mom are stressed out and no help from our neighbors .I will explain the best on the ongoing stress here, We are living like a prisioner on our home and the stress and our health hinders it.
My step brother dealing with mental health on hearing voices so bad,for over 20 years or more, My mom put him in a boarding home a few years back and he always coming back here wanting to live here, My mom is 83 years old and she can not take care of him. Now my mom is temporily disabled from a hip replacement, I can not care for him or my working sister as well. My step brother and me and my sister do not get along very well. Anyway,,
Last year he was in and out of the mental ward, coming here and not staying at the boarding home. His last visit from the mental ward was back in November and now is refuse on getting help, he is shouting and talking on whatever he hears. no medications or doctors and he shouting so loud outside and indoors. The police suggested a restraining order, but me and my sister did not do that yet, My step brother threat on hurting my working sister if we call 911. He is not volient,,but very smart and holding it in. We can not move and even the owner of his boarding home had enough with his lies and shouting. I always ask my working sis to call the crisis unit, but she fears that they will relase him within a week . Now my step brother is living here, downstairs and not taking care of himself. All he does is beg for money for coffee, cigs, if we do not give him money, he beg people from the streets. His shouting is extremely loud and non stop!!!day and night,
We want a long term care for him..because I am caring my own health, caring for my mom full time and my working sister works nights and we all need peace from him. He does not obey life rules, the downstairs apartment is a mess and sloppy..and we tried talking the mental hotline, which they did not help either,.
Is there any law or rights we have to commit him for good? Maybe getting a lawyer to help us,,we are living in fear and no one can help us. Social workers ,they were not helpful either.
Any ideas on what to do? My working sister is power of attourney and getting stressed out..sick,depressed. I had asked her let us try calling the crisis unit, but she thinks they will let him go,,,like what they did back in Novermber.
Any ideas would be very grateful and sorry to vent out on here, but do not know who to talk with on this issue. Thank you for listening and allowing me to vent,

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

All I can think of is baker act, if someone is a danger to themselves or others. Of course, they only hold 72 hrs, but by then maybe other treatment could be started.
My brother had my mother baker acted when she was a mess and that let to hospital care and nursing home, but every case is so different. My heart goes out to you..
I wish the law enforcement would get evoled with mental health people. So true, if the patient is no harm to other, there is no reason..We even had a judge order him for a month of peace last summer..but afterwards, back to square one.
Thank you all both..I had posted on the family section...but nothing new that we have not tried.
Thanks for me venting...Enjoy your day both of you. Hugs..

Independent backup is good too. For example, if you are with a friend when your brother does something, consider having your friend write a note as well.
You say you have not gotten a restraining order. Please consider getting one. The above documentation can be a big factor in getting it. If and when you get one, contact the local police and find out how to contact them when/if you need them to enforce it.
Please change the locks on your doors!
Your mom is the one that has to do that though you cannot do anything unless her harms you or property you can call the police and they will arrest him but the police aren't not the best for mentally ill patients he needs medical help.
