I just discovered this site and am so glad about it! I have been battling pancreatitis for the last year and a half and get so frustrated when I have a flare up. I can't seem to figure out exactly what triggers them but I do know now that I've got to change my eating habits. I started out juicing right after my first bout with P but slowly got away from it and figuring that I was healed for life I slipped back into eating yucky food and I even convinced myself that a couple of glasses of champagne would be ok...NOT! Born, raised and living in the South where most food is fried, creamy and or mayo ridden doesn't help. I'm back on the juice kick and determined to stay well. It is strange to me how little the medical people that I have worked with through this offer very little nutritional advice. Which brings me to my questions today...is it bad for my pancreas to take vitamins and nutitional supplements? Also any good juice recipes for weight lose? I need to lose 30-40lbs...YIKES that's a lot isn't it?!
So excited to find y'all (I joined the pancreatitis and diets/weight maintenance groups) and hope we can all help each other be our very best!
Peace,

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

I am a big fan of texture - so I couldnt do a complete juice diet - I am trying to count my calories using that spark tool I mentioned in my first post. Its helped alot because it lets me be accountable for what I am eating.
Maybe your provider could recommend a dietician too that could help with your flare ups? I know when my dad had pancreatic cancer he met with a dietician to help him with his enzymes, etc.
Good luck!
As for vitamins and supplements, you should really discuss this with your doctor and do very careful research yourself. This is one of those areas where some people have great results using those products, and other people end up in the emergency room, or making their conditions worse. So use caution and common sense, and do your homework. .
I think you are wise to be looking at how you can help yourself from a nutritional perspective. There are certain common sense tips that apply to everyone to enhance health: eat as many fresh vegetables, prepared in healthy ways, as possible; if you eat meat, make it small amounts, lean, prepared in a healthy way; eat healthy carbohydrates from whole grain sources; avoid alcohol; eat healthy fats (from sources like avocados, olive oil, and nuts) in very small amounts. Beyond that, for your condition, maybe folks in the pancreatitis group have some specific suggestions on foods to avoid or foods that help, or you could research the topic.
I took a trip to the South this year, and it's beautiful there, but I understand what you mean about the food - it's very challenging.
3/4 cup kale, ribs and stems removed, chopped
1 small stalk celery, chopped
banana
cup apple juice
cup ice
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
Put everything in a blender that has an ice crushing blade and mix it until it is frothy.

Twice a wk in my daily morning protine drink I will toss in sometype of raw veg and userly a banana, a scoop of sugar free ice cream n ice into blender. it is like a milk shake.
sometimes in this I will add a small scoop of original fiber one cereal. I run it through the blender w the other stuff.
I already have 2 gal of water.
Even when I fast I eat fruits n drink a lot of V-8 juice. V-8 juice is high in acid.
cit fruit is also high in acid.
Coffe quckly ferments. Aw the acid. =heart burn n/r bloating is caused by acid.
Our body go into digestion mode every 2 to 4 hrs. so it is best to give it something solid to work with.
I tjhink that when it doesn't have some bulk food to digest it will cause us to feel hungery when were not because it want/needs soilds.
I love food. so called commons foods are not eatable, yak.
but aw veg's n fruits yum yum and so good for our bodies.
I wouldn't want to spend rest of my life just drinking juices. that's a diet that no one can stick w nor want to do so for a life time.
I'm going to have an apple. it's tasty n bulky therefor it lays heavey n makes my system feel fuller than what it is. n it keeps me reg. know what I mean.
