It's my birthday today and I wanted to share a story with you all.
A good friend suggested that others need to read this as she found it quite motivational.
Wow.
Seven months ago I decided that I need to start looking after myself. I had spent years taking care of the family while my kids were quite young and never made any time for myself.
I realized that it had been 6 years since I had a physical, over two years since I had my eyesight checked and at least 4 years of gaining back almost all the weight I had lost...
That was the wake up call. I didn't want to scale to tip over the number I was at after my third child was born... I wouldn't stand for it. So... I spent almost one year watching what I was eating here and there. I lost a little here and there but I didn't really try. Sometimes, when I noticed that the weight was starting to go up again, I would watch what I was eating and exercise portion control.... the same method that got me to lose at least 35-40 lbs before. I would be happy to see that the weight was coming off but I never fully emersed myself into that lifestyle... I was just happy that I could lose it. I was so busy with the new house and unpacking (which I'm still doing) and setting up and organizing, that I got lost. Every once in a while, I would lose a little bit of weight and be pleased with it.
One day, just after school started for the kids, I realized that I had lost at least 20 lbs in the last year without really trying! I was shocked. Imagine if I really set my mind to lose the weight? I could make a goal and try and achieve it by a certain date.
At the same time, I found DS. It was like a sign! Now I knew I had to do it!
So...... September 15 2012 rolled around and I started my weight loss journey. Soon my goal date was set for mid-February as we were going on a two week vacation and I wanted to look great and be in shape for it!
I knew it would be hard.... with all the family gatherings, birthdays, christmas holidays etc. But I continued on knowing that my prize was the trip. I would gain and I would lose. It would take me almost one month to get back to where I was before the 'holiday'. I would be discouraged and I would be happy.
Here are my stats:
Total weight lost: 25 lbs. I went from 165 lbs to 140 lbs
BMI: I went from 27.1 to 23.3
I dropped 4 dress sizes!
Inches lost: I started measuring on October 22 2012...... one month after I started my lifestyle change.
I lost a total of 12 inches!!!
New goal date: Mid April.... my birthday. I achieved this goal 6 days before my goal date.
Update: Today, April 16, I weighed in at 138.5 lbs!
** I hope someone somewhere can be inspired by my story and continue with their lifestyle change..... it CAN and WILL happen! YOU have to have faith in yourself!

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
