Similar to some other posts I have read. Late 30's, two kids and a really supportive husband. In 2012 I thought I was a miserable overweight girl at 200 pounds at 5'3". I joined WW and got down to 179 by May of that year. Then my mom, who lives with us, had several health issues (concussion, catheterization, seizure) and my then 7 yr old was diagnosed with anxiety/ocd and by the end of that year she was medicated. I gained all the weight back and continued to pile it on. I am at 223 as of this morning. Now I would kill to be back at 200. I noticed the moment I went over the 200 pound mark a ton of different issues hit me...snoring, insomnia, plantar fasciatis and more. Prior to joining WW I had joined a gym and was very committed. 6-7 days a week, cardio, weight training etc. I had been measured by the staff and after 12 weeks went to be measured again. I wasn't looking forward to it and I was right. No loss, no reduction in body fat, no inches gone and I had also been eating right (lower carbs, whole grains, more veggies, etc.). Even the trainer was stumped. It sent me into a spiral. Most recently I did a 30 day challenge which included meditation, positivity and cardio every day. Again not a single pound off in 30 days. It was disheartening. I have had thyroid checked and all other blood work was good as of my last tests earlier this year. I am not on any medications, so those side effects are not an option. It is so hard to dedicate myself to anything when i just assume no results will be seen. Also - my husband although very slender and athletic (he is a PT instructor for a police academy) does not eat ANY veggies or fruit. He is a meat and potatoes guy (pizza sauce and OJ only exceptions). It is so hard on a budget to plan appropriate food for me and also stuff he wants. Also I really do not like salads and water is a chore for me also. I do my best and eat/drink them bc I should. I can typically get about 48 oz of water in a day. I sit at a desk all day in a small office, so there is very little activity for the bulk of the day. I am convinced that I am so stressed about my little girl and mom and life in general that my body won't let me lose weight, but maybe that is just an excuse too. By the time I get home and deal with whatever is the issue of the day with my daughter, I am beat and I want to sit on the couch and do nothing. I think maybe it is not enough exercise. I just don't know what to do or how to motivate myself. I want to be healthier for my kids and set an example and be around for a long time. I also don't want to be embarrassed to go out with my husband. I am already shy and have social phobias so the weight just makes it that much worse. Any words of advice, encouragement, suggestions on weight mgmt options that have worked for you would be appreciated. Thanks.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Weight control is all about lifestyles. We did not get over weight in a day, and we are not going to fix it in a day either. We need to understand the lifestyle that got us over weight in the first place. Then we need to change it into a lifestyle that will allow us to lose weight. Finally we need to adopt a lifestyle that will allow us to keep our weight at a good level once we get there.
We all accommodate changes at our own paces. Some people can make a ton of changes in a day and stick to them. Others need to make changes slowly in order for them to stick. Learn what works best for you and go at that pace.
Consult a dietician about advice for losing weight. Eating too little food can shock the system into going into starvation mode. Obviously eating too much is not healthy either.
We are all different. What works wonders for you may fail for me, and what works wonders for me may fail for you. Anybody who tries to convince you that they have a plan that, if followed strictly, will allow anybody to lose weight is giving bad advice.
OK, that is my basic stuff as gleaned from the good people here!
I also like to think of our way of eating as a lifestyle change. I don't like the word diet. Just that word diet makes me hungry..lol..
I also believe in when we find what works for us, stick with it, and great things will happen. A lifestyle change cannot work if we deter to often. We all fall off now and then, but get right back on track...
What works for me, is fun excercise, like walking, bike riding and basic movements I learned in school, and that was a long time ago.
I am a senior (64) and losing slowly. I never exclude any food, but have 1 cookie, pie, scoop of ice cream, pizza, and never seconds of the same thing. I eat every few hours, so I am not starved.
I like my plan, it is working for me, but like peperman said, we must find what works for us.
We have a great support system here and lots of good information.,,,hugs....
Changing the diet and lifestyle can be an enjoyable experience. Take a deep breath. Embrace the journey you're on and try to enjoy the learning as you go. Stress is an awful contributor to health issues. Try to get some mediation, exercise, journaling in. Do you have someone you could go walking with? Your daughter might enjoy that too and it just might help her.
Try to take it a day at a time. Allow yourself every break you need, every bit of self care you can squeeze into your day. I think if you focus on taking care of you, first, you will be amazed at how refreshed you will feel. The article I posted under "weekly weigh-in" had some nice pointers.
Hopefully you can get your husband and your daughter on track with your lifestyle changes. It all helps. :)
