Hi, I am new to this. I am 5'3" currently at 184 and not liking it. My weight goes up and down like a yo-yo. Some small part is due to water retention: I take two diuretics. Mostly it is because I spend too much time sitting in my "escape" chair.
I am a caregiver for my two parents, and I walk 5000 steps a day every day without ever leaving the house according to the fitbit. But when I am not running around and fetching or helping I retreat to my chair and do as little as I can get away with.
I usually start drinking coffee when I get up, drinking almost a pot (Mom has one cup) by 4 pm. I usually do not eat anything until 6:30 pm ( I feel neither hunger nor desire to eat). I chew nicotine gum all day long.
When I eat dinner, I eat a moderate protein portion of supper, and I try not to eat too much fat most of the time (I have an intestine disorder that gets upset if I get too much fat). But then, around 8pm, I start snacking, and it doesn't stop until I go to bed around 1 AM.
When I go to sleep it doesn't necessarily mean I am done eating. I sleep eat, usually fudge sickles lately it seems, from the wrappers and drips on my nightgowns. I don't usually rememeber doing it the next day. I often get up and eat in my "escape" chair, wher I eat my meals in the evening.
I don't usually eat my dinner with my family (this unfortunately has been my pattern for years). I don't even know why I do this any more.
What I know is that I am too big, and my eating is not in control. I am going to work out a new pattern, and would welcome suggestions.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

Im not much for advice as I am also a yo yo eater, but I keep trying different things to see what will work.
How about eating earlier in the day and not wait to evening to get started. I am always hungry, so often small meals work better for me.
I eat all type of food. I do not exclude anything, or I will just binge later. I have to have snack foods and sweets. But,
I do try for portion control. It is a work in progress.
Your walking is good for you. I like walking, biking, and try for lots of movement. My best to you and please take it slow and steady. This is a lifestyle change and is no race....
I think it's important to enjoy your meals so if you could try to make a routine out of sitting at the table and enjoying the process, it might help too. I've read that we tend to feel more satisfied when we take the time to enjoy our meals.
I remember being 184 and in weightwatchers. It all seems to be about accountability. Using the Weekly Weigh In has helped me a lot too as I know I'm sharing with everyone each week.
Hope you get a lot of great suggestions here. Good luck on this journey. I know you can get healthier!! :)
