im wondering if there is anyone who is sort of in the same position as i am in. i know people that are over weight generally have always sort of battled weight.
i never used to be over weight. i was once 98lbs soaking wet and had a body to die for. but then i got pregnant and slipped into several years of depression.
the result was ALOT of weight gain. and i feel guilty that i let myself get like this. i cant believe i let myself get like this.
i used to jog 5 miles a day. now a few trips up the stairs and im exhausted. i force myself to walk every day but i cant jog anymore.
my weight gain i know is all my fault .
im just wondering if anyone has been in this kind of situation and how they are dealing with the guilt

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

I was underweight as a kid and a healthy weight as a young adult. When I first got pregnant, I gained enough weight that my family doc thought there must be something wrong with me (gestational diabetes being her guess) and sent me for testing. When the test came back fine she sent me to a specialist who was really chill and told me that all women and all pregnancies were different. I went to him straight away when I got pregnant again.
I did manage to lose all of my pregnancy weight (while running after 5 kids in a home daycare) but when I went back to what our society deems a "real" job, I gained. My boss liked to order fast food in for everybody nearly everyday and I was too mousy to say no. After a couple of years there I weighed more than I did just prior to delivery and I was NOT pregnant.
I've only just started getting rid of that excess. Since January I've lost enough that I'm back in the healthy range but only just. I still have a ways to go to feel confident about myself again. I felt guiltier about knowingly making bad choices than I did about the weight itself. I hope that makes sense to you.
Now that I'm part of this and other weight loss groups on this site I don't feel guilty. I sometimes feel defeatist or impatient but it passes when I share those feelings and friends kick my butt back in gear.
You're actively trying to make positive changes that can't help but to put you on the right path. I suggest you let go of the guilt that is dragging you down. You might feel lighter and more optimistic about the future if you forgive yourself and move on.
Beating yourself up over it is probably inevitable. I had to just get on a program and pour the icky feelings into that instead. (For me it was WW.) I'm 84 lbs down now, and have a ways to go before even getting into the upper end of normal for my height, but one thing I have learned is guilt gets you nowhere. You can't change what you did to end up where you are, you can only change what you do to get to the next place you want to be.
When I get discouraged (I was within 10 pounds of my goal, and then slipped and added about 15 pounds back) I remember how far I have come, and use that as my "feel good" reward.
None of us got overweight overnight, and none of us is going to get back to our ideal weight overnight. So reward the effort, and reward the milestones between where you are and where you want to be!
Gentle hugs
Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?

We all do it and it serves us far better to look ahead rather than behind. Just knowing that we did have that younger physique though is incentive for me to work and continue to fight to be as healthy as I can.
