I am so overwhelmed by how much weight I need to lose and by how many different ways there are to exercise. I get so discouraged because weight loss is slow. I want to get in shape so badly. I need someone to come up with a fitness plan for me, but I don't have money for a personal trainer. I have tried looking online for at-home workouts, but there are just SO MANY options. I also HATE working out. I enjoy Zumba and fitness classes, but I'm unemployed and can't afford any. Help.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. a) setting down goals - small manageable pieces
b) weigh in each week with us http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Diets_Weight_Maintenance/forum/16363172-weekly-weighin-may-5-11
c) start with the exercises you love. I've lost plenty without a gym.
d) do some dance for as long at a time as you can stand it? 20-30 minutes at a time? There are so many options. SO, narrow it down into what you like doing.
No matter what you choose, just get started. on the diet, cut all refined sugars and flours, and sodas, drink plenty of water and do cut all the processed foods, especially anything with corn syrup.
You really CAN do this. You can really be at your best at your age and should be. :) One pound at a time. Just stick to your goals and know you may fluctuate from time to time and it's ok.
Good luck!!

What about swapping? Is there something you could swap in exchange for working with a personal trainer? Like maybe babysitting or something?
Where exercise is concerned, my best advice is to do what you enjoy. You'll be more likely to stick with it if you do something that is fun for you.
Try not to get overwhelmed by numbers or length of time - Lori is exactly right - set some small, manageable goals, work on them, achieve them, and then set some new ones. That will help keep things moving along.
Workouts don't always require money! Grab your headphones and go for a walk. Walking is great exercise, as is swimming..also widely accessible, especially as the warmer months roll around.
This is a great group for learning and for support. Hope you find lots of both! Good luck!
