Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'm much better now tho :)
what ? you asked!
i just needed a professional opinion.
but seriously, no. i had a lot of childhood trauma and then i had something happen to me that pushed my "coping ability" to the limit. according to my psych - it pushed me over. so i developed PTSD, major clinical depression, and major anxiety.
oddly, like you, in school I cut and had severe depression but no one ever cared enough to take me to a therapist. It's great that your dad cared so much and that you were able to get a diagnosis so early.
i was diagnosed when i was a little younger than you, about 14, in my family there were problems like alcoholism and drug addiction. i was smart but started skipping school, doing drugs. so, the therapist diagnosed me as a scapegoat. it's when others blam you for their problems. but they weren't awful to me to be honest.
are you still in counseling? is your father still giving you ahard time? you can pm me if you want it to be more private, ok sweetie?.
My depression happened very slowly, and crept up on me in tiny waves, lapping around my heels. I thought I knew what depression wa, and how to spot it----but I just kept telling myself I was peri-menopausal, and frustrated I'd never had any children.
It finally became clear to me when I was attempting to polish my resume', and couldn't find a place in the whole library that was peaceful or comfortable enough (even the soundproof cubicles). Every single noise went through me like a knife, and I couldn't concentrate at all, and furthermore, couldn't compose a decent sentence. This was NOT like me at all.
All of this, coupled with the knowledge I hadn't picked up a pencil or paintbrush in years, I had to admit that something was drastically wrong.
I was diagnosed with major depression and extreme anxiety disorder in March of 2007. I also have Social Anxiety as it turns out. I'm getting better, very slowly, with alot of compassionate help from friends(mostly from DS), and a few supportive family members.

Did not seek treatment until I weighed 105 pounds (couldn't eat), slept 1 hr. per night & wanted to die.
