Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hi. I've been on the Menopause support group for a while. After I started taking Hormone Replacement Therapy, all seemed to be fixed, then months later, stuff would go downhill. We've adjusted the hormones twice, but the Depression is the main thing that I'm still dealing with (the overwhelming sadness as opposed to the crazies), which is why I joined this support group as well.
I'm considering seeing a psychiatrist who can hopefully prescribe the weakest, most benign dosage level of anti-depressant available; hopefully it will be non-addicting, and maybe I can even take it "when necessary".
I know that anti-depressants, like hormones, affect us all differently. Nevertheless, I'd like to hear your experiences with them, good and bad/

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

As you stated, they all affect us differently, but whenever someone asks about anti depressants I always throw out my worst experience in case they begin to feel something similar. I was on Effexor (or Venlafaxine depending on the brand) and it was by far the worst thing in the world to come off of. While I was on it, I felt no change what-so-ever, even after time and upping the dosage. So I was taken off of it... I felt SO hopeless that I could not get off the couch, I had NO emotion, NO energy and I had this constant "zap" throughout my nervous system (happened every 20 seconds or so) and it was HELL to get off. That is just a small something I share because people I know have had similar experiences with it as well.
Lastly, have you looked into any natural medicine options? I've been meaning to see a Naturopathic Doctor but have not had time. If you're worried about taking medication in general, or even on an "as needed" basis, I think this may be a positive option for you.
Best of luck. God Bless!
I had been on medication for most of my adult life. The last one I was on was Pristiq which, at the time was one of the newer medications. It got rid of horrible feelings of loss and isolation and I never had to have the initial 50 miligram dose increased. I was on it for many years.
Recently, I began studying a new type of spirituality and was able to generate, what my brain was lacking so I stopped taking them.
Hope this helps,
God Bless
