Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I've been wanting to change careers for a very, very long time, years. I've tried hard to do this. It was not possible to do it without further training-I attempted to do so through volunteering, etc, but it didn't lead to a job. My teaching career is very toxic and is wearing on me more and more, daily.
I decided finally a few years ago to go back to school. I was taking classes here and there, and then did one of these tech boot camps to make me job ready. I could not afford another Bachelor's or Masters and really didn't have the time. I'm also going to turn 50. This is why I started this journey a few years ago.
Well, I've graduated, and now, I'm really concerned it's not going to lead to a job. I have put in 30 applications, and while that's not an overwhelming amount, I probably have about 8 no thank you letters and the rest just never replied.
Part of my tuition was to work with the univeristy's career placement program. That was fine for a while. I told the career coach that I needed to just put my work search on pause because I had to have surgery. He didn't seem all that sympathetic and said he would put me on his no contact list and to contact him when I recovered. So I did. The recovery time was pretty quick. Now, my emails are being rejected by the provider. I don't know if this is just a mistake or what, but I can't get a hold of him. I contacted the manager and asked if someone could be assgined to me. He said he would assign someone and get back to me. A week passed. I asked him about it again, he said he'd check again, still nothing. I emailed someone else and now those emails are bouncing back and being returned.
This doesn't seem professional for a major university. I'm starting to feel hopeless and depressed. My job is very sad. There is almost nothing to do all day-hardly any students are enrolled, and the campus has a really negative feel most of the time. I've put so much work into this toward graduating, tons of homework, expensive tuition and late nights. One of the application pre-questionairres asked for my age. I withdrew the application.
One of my fellow students, who is also about my age, seems to be doing OK. He is getting interviews left and right, but he has worked in a related field and has a lot of experience.
I don't know what to do....

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Hope the dog days of summer aren't getting you down!

It took me 2 years to find the job i have now. Dozens and dozens of interviews as well as around 50 no response or rejection letters.
It may also be the area you live in. You may actually have to move to get the job you want which is what i had to do. I live 2 hours away from family now which isn't bad but still sucks.
The area i lived in just had no jobs for me. Even though i had skills my old experience mattered little since i was sick for 13 years-ish. The jobs also didnt care that i had a degree (even though they required it) and an "Entry level" jobs also seemed to require a masters (i had a bachelors) as well as 3 to 5 years experience (which is nuts for entry level jobs).
My mother always told me that God had the job picked out for me and one day i had an interview with IBM and it went ok but then they called back and said they wanted me to interview with another team.
By this time i had given up. I didn't really care what i said in the interview i ended up telling jokes and got all 5 of the individuals laughing about different things.
The next day i got an offer email. I got the job.
Don't give up. God knows which job is for you and he will help you when it is the right one.
Push through and persevere. God has your back.
I think because I'm new to my field, I'm going to have to freelance, I've just kind of come to that conclusion. Without a formal degree, this is probably going to pose a problem and my education is different, so I signed up to freelance as a way to gain experience.
