Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My addictions? I have more than should, in fact it's getting to the stage where I don't know which one to battle 1st. Im addicted to cutting, partying, spending way more than I can afford, I steal and race fast cars for money (I have in the past, not now) and worst of all I'm addicted to the person I'm in love with.
Ok. Fine. I don't talk about this here, but here goes. I've got RA, and live with chronic pain. Sometimes I am able to manage it so I don't "need" pain meds. Well, I Used to drink a Lot. I don't drink at All anymore (well, maybe a glass of wine every 3 months). But since I got pain meds working, they've become like some people take antidepressants - take it every day to make sure you're ok, and replaced alcohol for me.
So yeah, I traded sex drugs and alcohol out for my pain medicine. I'm not sure I would last an entire day without it now. It's maintenance more than "as needed". It works for me. What is the danger? Liver maybe? Not as effective now? Dependency is the biggest risk and I think I'm there.
So. Your bravery has made me get it off my chest. Hmmm, The Bistro is a druggie and the whole world knows now. I just couldn't let you stand up here alone my Friend.
I Was able to stop taking one of two I Was on .... but I don't have any plans to stop the last one I take.
Procrastination is my other drug. As long as we're on addictions. I will put things off until it is a crisis ... then I'm all over it. I THINK it is the adrenylin rush I get at the final moment when I BETTER do it NOW or I will Really screw up ... I don't leave any time for mistakes and buffering ...... It's screwed up, but it's a kind of addiction.
Speed. I finally slowed down on the roads, but not on my sled. They make these machines really Fast now. I almost killed myself 3 times already. There is just something about going that fast that Works, you know? That's another one.
LAZINESS ........................ sometimes I sleep when I'm not even tired!!!!! I am a lazy fat cow ................................ I hate it!!!!!! But It do it .... it's become an addiction ...............................................
I'm sure there are tons more ....... that should be enough for today's lesson.
Good One Beastie! Oh. Just read your last sentence again - about doing something about it ........ Hmmm ... I ain't making no promises. I Talked about it - that's plenty for one day.
I know I can sell the jewelry and I started buying it for investment purposes so in a way its worth while but I have even spent on the tv channels and they were not good deals... its an addiction and when Im depressed I get all the pieces out and look at them, I hardly wear them. I probably have 350 to 400 rings in 18 kt 14kt and 10kt gold.. Most with stones, small diamonds and such... but what the hell was I thinking?
I ruv you guys rong tieeeeeeee.... thanks for sharing....
My main addiction is smoking. But I really feel I could become an alcholic at any time, I fight it almost every day. Even though now I dont drink. Alcholism runs rampant in my family. I started drinking heavy at age of 15 and continued until I met my husband. But when things get bad I really want to reach for a drink.
My addictions can actually be anything I discover that even has the possibility of making me feel better, which is having fun is so damn difficult for me. First it was puzzles, which I did spend a sizable amount of money on. It resulted in a collection that would make anyone's eyes pop.
Then it was video golf...the TIger Woods PGA Tour 12 game on my desktop has now been gathering dust for a month.
I also stress out so often that self-injury is an issue also, and I have tons of pale scars to prove it. In part this is thanks to the fact that I can't keep my hands occupied without getting addicted to something else.
Thanks everyone for sharing.. At least I know Im not alone
At least you recognize it's an addiction. That's a big start in the right direction. I had an addiction to QVC at the end of my marriage, which only destroyed my marriage faster. My current and ongoing addiction is to people. If someone is nice to me I end up absolutely adoring them and wanting more and more of their company until they can't take it anymore and I lose a friend. It's horrible. I am my worst enemy. I have no idea how to have a healthy friendship.
My addiction? Food, unfortunately. Food and I, we have a love hate relationship. I turn to it for comfort when I am down, and as reward when I am happy. I live to eat instead of eating to live.
I am ashamed of it, really.
Hugs, my friend.
I'm addicted to my sleeping meds. I take them to get high and when i'm not on them i miss them. I never understood drug addicts until i couldn't understand reality. I'm ashamed of myself, but i know i'll just take a little pill and i wont be bothered anymore.
Breathe in, Breathe out.
Nobody can understand very well (not a pity thing, just a reality) unless they've had some type of ED I think. But it's the most amazing feeling I've ever had, to have nothing in me. I love it. And I hate the days when I eat...sometimes I can see the reality and say...Hey, this is good...this is keeping you alive. But usually...I just want the next restricting day to come.
Spending used to be a big one, but that did get better.
My sister is addicted to sun tanning and telling lies.. I have one brother (not either that are sick) that is an alcoholic.. He drinks every day and it breaks my heart..
I know that smoking and drinking can kill me. But I feel I gave up one of the two so now I just need to work on the other..
Summer, I have read a lot about of ED and I know that can take your life also but I do understand it..
My son is obese and I think he uses food and buying xbox games and dvds to help him through his depression..I worry all the time about the effect on his health. Im not in the best of shape myself and could stand to loose a few pounds. Im sure it would help with my back and neck problems. When I have exercised I will also do it to excess, but unfortunately that doesnt happen very often.. lol
You guys are awesome for sharing some private things here.. Thank you for that. I think a lot of my addictions have come from our disease.. It is a shame that I cant enjoy life without doing things to spoil the years I have left.. I do cause self-destruction without even trying..
I was anorexic. I would go three days with nothing but water.
Of course, then I would Start to fall down :-)
And Shopping......................Lordy, I ran more then one credit card to the limit.
My ED is 98% under control. Although I still have a Tendency to not eat when I get upset.
And I only use cash now. I still LOVE to shop, but I only buy things I NEED. (Not nearly as much fun)
And It's certainly no fun paying the stupid things down :-(
You guys are truly inspiring :-)
Love, Comfort And Healing To You All
