Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I am not sure what to think. I was told by a specialist (cardiology) to see if I could re evaluate the meds that I am on (seroquel) due to the high side effect profile. My primary care said this as well.
I have tried to address this with my current pdoc as I know that this drug has a lot of side effects and I recently had a dizzy spell where I collapsed. So, my drs. think the seroquel could have something to do with it and that it's time to try something new. My current psych absolutely refuses to change.
So, I called the place that I got a referral to, and ended up getting into this really long conversation with whomever was on the phone-my entire psychiatric history. I was not comfortable with this. This was just to make an appointment for a second opinion. I ended up needing to reschedule due to having a lot of obligations and too much to juggle, especially with recovering from surgery and a major illness. It was just the timing and I was going to revisit getting a second opinion in a couple of months. When I called to try to reschedule, the receptionist wanted an explanation why I was rescheduling.
For some reason this really, really bothered me. I told her no, that she does not have the right to know this. She then started throwing out all kinds of dates that are soon. I can't do it until the summer. I said nevermind and that I would call them back. Usually, good docs have a waiting list and are hard to get into. Seemed like they were very anxious to get me in there. I always have to wonder when someone really, really needs your business, really, really needs to hire you or to date you, usually something is wrong. I decided not to rescheule that that point.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

Is there a reason why you can't go until the summer? Because maybe you could squeeze in a visit before then. Your physical health is very important.
Hugs!
I don't know if the place where you got the referral does this, but if they do, this really helps. Is that that new Dr. part of an organization? Like here, we have Langone Health, and they have a patient portal called My Chart. You can put yourself on a wait list, and as soon as there's an opening they notify you. I have gotten earlier appointments like this several times. Or if they don't do that, you can asked to be put on a wait list. I hope this helps you! Good luck!!
